Diamond Drive Info to consider

I just thought I would do a quick post on Diamond Drive findings for a quick reference or to help you guys out. 2007-2008 with reverse are notorious for failure. I have found a few things that seem to work well.

We run Redline Superlight Shockproof Sythetic gear oil in the drives.

Run lower gearing 55/65 on M8 and 57/63 on M1000 or lower for best results.

I have found that the aftermarket (BDX) gears have lightening holes or are spoked, where the stockers are solid. My theory is that more oil gets to pass through the gear and into the planetary area with these gears and therefore makes the planetary last longer.

Change oil often. 500 miles is a good rule of thumb. If there are ANY gold shavings or brass colored debris the planetary is failing and needs replaced.

Annual disassembly and cleaning is another good rule to follow.

Great info on this post!
What weight is the Redline oil you use?
I use the regular redline shockproof in my harley transmission works awesome but it is thick and looks like pepto.

I've been running the redline shockproof superlite for the last 2 years and have had great luck. If I remember correct it is 70/75w.

ya i just went to install new gears 2 weeks ago and found brass filings small but there later found the thrust washers on the planet gears 2 out of 5 gone.I change oil every 500 and only have 1600 or 1700 miles. Not sure why it failed the only thing i have done different is towed freinds out a couple time i wonder if it is the extra load? Also maybe they should be straight cut gears instead of helical cut gears then there would be no side loading on the planetarys just a thought.
But if anybody else has had a failure just wondering if you had towed anybody aswell just trying to find some common ground and why, thanks

BDX has a new planetary coming out along with new gears for high horsepower sleds. The new planetary uses straight cut gears and gets rid of the brass thrust washers that fail. No idea when they will be out...hopefully soon!

I think they are in the speedwerx catalog.

Ya i talked to BDX about when i ordered my gears hopefully that will work better or i guess i should say longer it works great.I am surprized there are not more people on this thread it would be nice to see how many failures there really is and the people that havent failed one what are they doing different

I have 2800 miles on a stock 07 M8 case, clean it twice per season, still looks new inside.

I'm running 57/63 stock cat gears in my 08 m1000. I change the oil every 500 miles with the cat dd oil and I use the flush they sell as well. I have over 4000 miles on this drive with no problems at all. I don't use reverse all that often. Maybe that has something to do with it not failing.

Mine failed at 2800 miles. Issue was the idiot dealer worked on it. They didn't set the lock ring that holds the planetary in and the planetary cocked sideways and grenaded. Guess thats what you get for letting a dealer with punk kids as mechanics who dont have an idea what they're doing work on your sled. This was the first time i've ever let a dealer touch anything i own and definately the last.

So when can you get a BDX light drive w/ the new planetary and the wider bearing along with their gears?? I drained my DD fluid at 250 miles, saw one possible brass sliver that was very small. Just put 300 miles on it this week and its coming out tonight for a full inspection.....going to try the BDX fluid this go round
