DET light coming on at 8000ft

So my axys doesn't seem to like running under 9000ft in elevation. 9-12K I've never had a DET light come on. The two times I've ridden it at 8000ft, the DET light will eventually come on. Why is this happening? I run 91 non ethanol only, not seeing anything over 8450-8500rpm at 8K ft. Even in ethanol mode I can hear the engine detonating a bit at 8K ft, but no DET light. Even when it's detonating the plugs are a perfect color. I've been throwing in a couple gallons of race gas each ride now.

Have you tried fuel from a different source? Not unheard of for someone to be selling regular or midgrade as premium.

Yes bone stock, do have SLP extra vents in the intake to combat intake pow bogs. Fuel came from one station where it detonated 1st ride, and I filled it up about 6gal before the last ride from another station. Both suppose to be non-ethanol 91. Guess that's a possibility though.

You have to be getting close to the rev limiter. I've hit 8500 too but haven't had the rev limiter come on yet. You mention you saw the det light, are you certain it wasn't a rev limiter light? I'm not sure what either look like on the Axys yet.

The limiter on the Axys is 9000

Not that I really think the intake vents are the problem but did it do it before there install? People run these things at sea level so it is weird.

No but didnt ride it at 8k ft before the intake vents were added either. All the vents were 1/2 covered in snow, so it should act like stock not covered at all. It was definitely DET light which comes up as DE7 and cuts power a bunch. Once I shut off and restart it runs full power again.

switch to different fuel. Out of 3 stations around me, I can only run gas from 1 of them and not have det issues, all 3 claim to be 91 octane. Eric

If it accelerates too fast from 7000rpm to 8500 rpm it will det had it happen on mine and know a few other guys who have. Add clutch weight and willing to be problem goes away
