DESS problems!

My sled won't run and I've posted on here asking questions. Couple people have said possible DESS problem. How can I test this to see if that is the problem? I'm the only Skidoo rider in the group so I can't get another key. Snow is here and I have week off....need my sled running.....any ideas would be great!!!!

I would find it very unlikely that it is a dess as I have only replaced one dess post in my ten years in the industry. There is a simple resistance test in the manual though if you want to check it. Also you can quickly unhook the kill switch which eliminates that. The most common thing I've seen was bad stators on the early 800's or bad / dirty connections. You can also test the trigger coil. With a manual you should be able to diagnoise.

It may not be the post but the DESS key itself ... my '07 smoked one in less than 300 miles when new, short in ECM supposedly caused it('07 ECM placement issues are well documented). I never ride without a spare DESS key now ... luckily we were back at the trucks at the end of the day when it took a crap!

i also had trouble with my 08 x---and it was the key--why not just get it to the dealer --they can test it pretty fast:rolleyes:

Just wondering...is there a way to by pass the DESS post so that the key isn't needed to start the sled. This is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack right now and really pissing me off cause the snow is now here!!!!

Nope there's no bypassing the DESS, It might be wise to take the sled to a dealer.

I am having the same problem with an 05 800. My biggest problem is that the closest doo dealer is 3.5 hours away and i took it there Friday to make a new key and they hooked it up to the computer and it would not communicate. We checked for spark and it had none. They said I should put a new computer in for 595 bucks later and i said i would take it home and check with another sled i have.

I warmed it up and messed with the key and got it to run. I ran it down the road and if I can keep the key in the exact position it will run just fine. I called the dealer and they basically told me I had a bad computer. Does anyone on here agree with this??

98 mach z starting problems

i just bought a 98 mach z from a kid who changed out the motor and put a 94 mach 1 670 in it...i haven't been able to get this thing to run since i got it off my truck...my dess is hooked up but has a messed up ignition..could the ignition be the problem and if so is there a way to unhook it to bypass.
