So guys with long tracks do you find it better to carry your fuel on the back or run a desert tank to lessen what is carried on the back? Trying to decide to upgrade to a desert... right now I carry about 4 gallons on the back... I find if I take the fuel off there is less trenching... I have a 15 Timbersled lt

Depends on the bike. Some of the larger tanks cut the air flow on certain radiator layouts and cause overheating.

I will be running a tunnel cooler on a 2014 450sxf turbo

dumping gas

I like the feel of a 3 gallon desert tank and less gas on the back. For early KTM 450 and WR450, both bikes beneftted from modest size aftermarket tanks and less gas on the back.

The big honking tanks with radiator guards filled with gas made my Kawasaki way to front end heavy and poor riding position.

switched to a 3.3g Acerbis this year, with just an MSR bottle in the tunnel bag. SOOOOO nice to have all the weight off my back and in a tunnel bag instead of having gas cans take up all the real estate.

Is it real estate issue or you like the handling aspect... I always feel like I am towing a weight with the 4 gallons on back..

IMS tanks on all my previous snowbikes. Being a racer and off road rider my entire life I have never seen or heard of overheating issues due to large tanks.

On my son's 85 it runs a good bit hotter with the ims but it is not a deal killer... Better than running out of gas
