If you have [check key] come up on your digital readout sometimes, get a new one. My 08 xp has had this problem from the day I picked it up. My dealer [RMS] told me that was normal. The bad DES cap failed 15 miles from the truck. I have been playing with clutching for 1300 miles to try and get RPM to hold 8200 with out much luck. I changed the DES cap and now it runs 8200 RPM and holds. It is a different sled now.

D.E.S.S. - you're correct. And the error code is not normal. Key needs to be re-programmed with the sled. Something didn't take the first time.
roger that ! I rented a sled yesterday with only 120 miles and the DESS gave us fits for most of the day. Sat on my butt for 2 1/2 hours of PERFECT riding conditions waiting for the sled to take its nap. It would always start but kept beeping and wouldn't rev over 3k. For some reason it finally decided to run so I never shut it off the rest of the day. Pretty frustrating.
Yes I am talking about the DESS cap or tether and I now carry a spare.
