Deployment Welcome home

I am a member of the PGR and have brought home many men and women, far too many too their final resting place. I have a close friend whom is set to come home in April, from tour number 4 or more( i will never now)(EOD). I have a few friends whom are all flying out too great him, besides myself. I am also calling in every favor I have as a member of the PGR.

SO I ask of you my fellow SW members whom have been deployed, how was it that you were brought home and what was best about it. Met at airport and welcome home parade, escort home from base.

Thanks

I've been over twice now, set to head out again next spring. Both times I've came home, there wasn't any big signs or any big deal really. Just some good friends there to pick me up from the Airport. My second trip I was thanked on the flight from the east coast back to the west coast, and the flight attendant hooked me up with some free drinks. Other than that its just a great feeling to be back on your home turf.

The first thing I did when I got back though...we went to outback and I had the biggest steak of my life!

I really think that I would be overwhelmed if anyone really went out of their way to welcome me back...mostly because I dont feel like I am doing anything that is above and beyond, just doing my job.

Being a service member myself and currently deployed also its nice just to be welcomed home by your friends and family. Like said above it's nice just to be home and enjoy America!!!!! Give him a few days to get back into the swing of things cause you get into a routine when you are deployed and it seems like everything is new again when you return. Just saying thank you means alot. :)

The last time I was quit litterley kicked off a transport in California, swapped green bags for civi bags caught a flight to the nearest airport. and drove home.
felt like I was disowned.

I'm sorry man, no one should have been treated like that for serving their country.

I am sorry Wood, like everyone said. No one whom served for us should ever be treated like that. Belated WELCOME HOME / THANK YOU from Me.

Thanks, Moto and Ski for the help, and your service. There are 5 of us flying out to greet him when he comes home. Most of us have not seen him in atleast 5 yrs each, but we did all talk too as he was deploying to say thanks.

I figure(based upon suggestions) we will meet him at the airport and say thank you / welcome home. Maybe embarrass him a bit with some signage, he is the unit LTcmdr. Then give him a couple days to get home and see his wife and kids, before we go and spend some time with him. ( maybe have some BBQ shipped in, as he will have been months without pork and some ribs).

Thanks again everyone for their input, would not have thought about it from his perspective, and I knew it would be best to ask.

cheers to the PGR...blocking the WBC from protesting a fallen comrades funeral....While i was on emergency leave a couple years ago when my house burned one of them..cant remember his name for the life of me, rode down and met with me and offered any kind of help they could offer....if you know who that was nole let me know...i sure would like to buy him a drink

Meat I will look into that for you, ask around the MN/IA PGR members, but I know once I find him his answer will be. It was the least I could do for him/you at the time.
But if you want to find him and thank in person. I would suggest just joining online the MN PGR, post a message on their forum , describe the situation and what happened and someone or everyone will remember. That is the best way. Look for my thread on the MN PGR board and chime in for your answer.

Meat, having seen the above, any input on bringing home my friend besides what has been posted and my new thoughts on what too do.

Thanks

Nothing is better than laughter after what we've been through!!!!

Pile it on!!

Good for you nole!!!
Give him a HUGE thanks from wyoming too when ya get the chance!
And again thanks too all who have served this great country!!!

GREAT POST!!!!!!!

Wood,
A group of us friends were together as he deployed, and he told us. Don't send anything serious to me, send us fun, we need it. And your comment shored that up to me. So Wood, I just sent his team a pink summer sucks toque, as I figured winter was coming to the afghan mtns they are working in. Figure they will use it as, don't ask, don't tell fodder.

Thanks again Wood for what you have done( am sorry no one was there to say it in person), not sure I can ever say it enough so you know...THANK YOU.
The big WYO Thank you will be noted and sent, but I am thinking of bring this post back in APRIL when the team and my friend returns.

Based upon our returning HERO's comments, going to meet my friend at the gate to say thank you. Then give him a day or so to adjust and see family. Then fly in the biggest BBQ spread he and his team have seen in a life time to say thanks to all of them. They have been away from pork for a year, so would be fitting a table full of ribs and bbq sandmiches

So That is when I will revise this thread. You want to give him thanks. Give them all thanks, They deserved it. At that time I shall collect ph numbers to anyone whom wants to say it in person. Will give you a call time and then let the phone be passed around, you can say it for yourselves. This is not deployment number 1 or 4 for these guys, its deployment unknown actually for what they do.

Thanks everyone for their input and support. Look for an April revival, if yo want in on the TY's
