Delta Airlines - WiFi

Well, I just left Salt Lake City en route to Atlanta, and flew right out over Heber and Kamas, Park City, etc..

Delta Airlines is now offering Wifi (free trial), ~$12.00 later, and it provides suprisingly good performance (1.3mbps down/300kbps up, pings = ~85ms).

That said, they're better at handling packets than luggage!

Well, 3 hrs from SLC to ATL was actually productive today. (aside from a few SW posts ;-) Go figure.
All of the typical apps work - SSH, HTTP, IPSec, IM, Wireshark, etc....

The only other time I've seen Internet service on planes is on international flights. I.e. Vancouver to NYC, Denver to London, etc..

Very nice to have it on Domestic flights now.

can you clone someone's MAC who did pay, like you can at the airports and some hotels?

Mtn. Doo, you can't have internet service to London or anywhere in Europe for that matter. Over the Atlantic the only communication is via HF and there is no radar either out there. No way you could have Internet. However, you could have it from Denver for a couple hours until you got out past Gander heading out over the Atlantic. :)

Yes, exactly - on the London flight, the service died shortly after leaving the mainland. But I suspected the service was allowed where available primarily due to the fact that it was an international flight. This was in advance of the advent of the service that I used on the SLC-ATL flight this week.

This free wi-fi is alot better than trying to read a book or such. On my way to vegas for the weekend. The D/A sitting in front of me leaned his seat back making no room for the lap top. Luckily, there are 2 spare seats to the side. I am moving.
