What happened at Togotee? Anybody have more info? :(

JACKSON, Wyo. - A helicopter crash in remote, northwest Wyoming has killed one of the three people aboard who were trying to help a snowmobiler, and sheriff's officials say the snowmobiler also has died.

The snowmobiler's party had called for help Wednesday. Teton County sheriff's officials say the helicopter had reached them but was leaving to get more help when it crashed on Togwotee Pass. They say 63-year-old rescuer Ray Shriver was killed, and the pilot and another rescuer were taken to a hospital.

Sheriff's officials say deputies reached the snowmobilers after tending to the helicopter victims, but 53-year-old Steven Anderson of Morris, Minn., also has died. Details of what led his party to call for help weren't immediately available.

Sheriff's officials say the rear rotor on the helicopter may have failed.

Sounds like a horrible tragedy. Snowmobiler dies and even worse that rescuer dies trying to save the biler.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming - JH Weekly has learned that Teton County Search and Rescue member Ray Shriver, 63, was killed while responding to a call for help from snowmobilers involved in a wreck 6.7 miles south of Togwotee Mountain Lodge. The helicopter, piloted by veteran Ken Johnson, landed at the scene, performed triage, and departed for additional personnel. They never made it.

The chopper crashed shortly after leaving the scene. The snowmobiler party called 9-1-1 and two more airships were dispatched – one from a Pocatello hospital and another nearby helicopter belonging to a heli-skiing operation.

Reports from TCSO dispatch state Johnson experienced problems with the rudder prop. He and another unknown TCSAR member were treated at the scene with minor injuries. Shriver was alive briefly after the crash but died shortly thereafter.

Shriver was a rescue dog handler with the K-9 unit since January 1998.

Once all helicopter victims were evacuated from the scene, deputies moved to the scene of the initial incident which had resulted in the death of 53 year old Steven Anderson of Morris, Minnesota.

Very sad deal. RIP
