DEF/DPF delete

Have a 2012 Duramax that is just about to go out of powertrain warranty and my Service DEF light is on and I'm in 'limp mode'. Contemplating doing a delete but I do not have much experience with them. I don't want to deal with def fluid, or have a cel light on, or 'roll coal'. All this possible by deleting the def and dpf?

Anyone out there with experience? Would you do it again?

I have a 2012 ram bought new and deleted at 5000 miles. I didn't care about warranty too much. I used h&s mini maxx for tuner, h&s egr delete kit, flo pro 5" stainless exhaust. Have not had an issue in the last four years since I deleted. I have always left it on stock power with the mini maxx and it does not smoke at all. Only thing I would do different is the exhaust, I bought the system with muffler as I wanted to keep it quiet for the long trips and it had a terrible drone in the cab at 65-75mph. I added a fte resonator right after the down pipe which fixed the drone. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I know there are cheaper options for tuner like race-me or maybe efi live and i believe h&s has closed now so if mine dies I would look into efi live. Hope this helps

Replace exhaust and have a good tuner program it out. Been around several trucks with it done. Just make sure you don't pull too much out of it.
Remember it's illegal to do. I have heard of cops on Washington using mirrors on diesels to verify all exhaust components are in place, but don't know that for a fact.

I deleted my 2015 back last September. It wasn't too bad it took me a couple days after work and maybe one whole weekend day.

At a minimum you are going to need a tune (EFI Live) by one of the reputable tuners (PPEI, Moonshine, Ridgerunner), and a new downpipe back exhaust ($550 for 5" Stainless Steel straight pipe exhaust). I went with PPEI tunes ($900 for 5 pack of tunes).

I would also highly recommend doing EGR blocker plates ($12) to keep the soot out of your engine, and lift pump ($600-$740) which helps out your CP4 injection pump and adds extra fuel filtration and water separation. I have heard people say the blocker plates aren't necessary because when the tuner disables the EGR valve its not supposed to open, but under heavy load there is a chance it can open causing a loss of power. The lift pump is not technically required either, but instead of you injection pump having to pull fuel from the tank, this pump supplies fuel under positive pressure making your injection pump not have to work as hard.

Lastly, if you do any heavy towing or do frequent towing I would recommend a monitor ($400) and EGT probe ($120) in the manifold (I have an EDGE CTS2 monitor with their EGT probe.)

X2 on efi live. I did my 2012 last fall and absolutely love it! It's like a brand new truck! You'll wish you did it sooner

All, Thanks for the input.

Got a quote today from a local shop for new 4" exhaust with muffler and a single tune/flash (ez link I believe) installed for right at $1900.

I'm still on the fence on whether to get the stock stuff ( def tank heater code) fixed or go with the delete. Both have their pros and cons.

I'll let y'all know what I decide.....

Just delete it. U will have no regrets. Did my 16 at 3000 miles. Once u have that new found power it's hard to drive a stocker ever again.

Well, did the new exhaust and single tune and it was right at $1900 installed. Haven't driven it much, 50 miles, but a couple things I have noticed:
- it does feel like it has more power
- it is a little louder but not totally obnoxious
- it does smoke a little when lugging it and a puff when you start it as well as the 'old school' diesel smell

Going on a short road trip next weekend as we'll see how it does....

Who did you go with for the tune? Also, did you block off the EGR?

Fyi most emissions stuff is covered for 8 years and so many miles on newer diesels

1900 for a single exhaust and single tune????? Soundo Luke they seem you coming lmao. Ouch

The tunes are spendy. I'll do all of the labor to delete my F350 and it will cost me 1500-2000 depending on the exhaust I go with.
