Deep Powder - Slipping belt

Just an FYI . . .

Had what sounded/felt like belt slippage in the deeper dry powder.

I love the larger more open hood vents for keeping things cool, but it sure looks like those vents allow powder to blow in over the top of the engine, and drop right on the belt at the secondary clutch. In over-the-hoop deep powder, this might be a fairly substantial issue . . .?

Anyone else experienced this?

Belt deflection good? Belts always stretch out very quickly on brand new 850's w/brand new belts....often requires adjustment even during the 1st ride, and often slips if not adjusted.

There is also a vent on the side panels that let's snow on the clutch.

Happens lots in deep dry pow. On those days I put tape over the vents and the footwell on clutch side. If the snow is warm/heavier its not as bad, but when its cold its slipping constantly

Wait just a minute here......the 2022 clutches are advertised as being "self adjusting".

Is this the case or not?

Also if the new Matrix is allowing snow to contaminate the clutches this is unacceptable.

Scheduled for a January delivery.......time will tell.

I think only on the boost. I had the same thought, but my NA is the P85 primary.

I will say the sled itself is incredible - it straight up walked out of a "stuck" that would have been a significant PITA on my axys. Noticeably better performance.

The self adjusting belt deflection on the boost sled has nothing to do with the belt slipping under load.

I just ordered some frogskinz screens, so I can put over those vents. After reading this thread. That' should help

I had the same problem a couple times! Glad to know I’m not the only one. An easy fix I guess, but completely unacceptable! I was in 2 feet of dry snow, and I plan to ride in deeper snow. Very happy with the boost but man I can’t believe snow gets in. I guess I’ll get some frog skin as well

Going to give this a try, as window screen is open enough to allow great air flow, yet fine enough to keep the majority of the powder out.

I think fine "frog skin" screen would be too fine to allow enough air flow.
On the older sleds I had good luck with aluminum mesh from an old satelite dish. Much coarser and it worked well too.

Got 'er finished up. Used aluminum window screen on the 4 main vents. Just "tacked" it on the corners of each opening with E6000. That way if it does not work well, should be easy to remove. And if it works well, i can add more adhesive.

By the looks of it completed, I am thinking it will work very well.

Thanks "Teth-Air" for the suggestion!!

There not custom for 22. So you have to look under universalmesh. They have a bunch of different sizes
