deck + trailer= what tire

just bought a deck for this upcoming season. lookin to buy some snow tires, just wondering what tires are u guys running. Right now i'm running 285's, and would like to stick with that size as i have chains and all already. i have looked at the TOYO M-55's, Cooper ST max's, and arcitc claws, all in a 10 ply. what are your thoughts, are 10 plys mandatory for a deck and trailer setup? what would (do) you run?
 
I did Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's in 10 ply. I had good luck with them and didn't really feel as though I was moving around too much. When you have one or two sleds on the back it really helps with snow traction. In fact, even the deck helped my truck a little (GMC 2500HD). I run 10 ply because I also have a large Lance camper that weighs over 3500lbs. I keep the tires at 80psi with the camper and about 65-70psi in the winter. I'll put 15-20lbs of air in my airbags in the winter to keep any swaying. Too much air and you will be a little too stiff in the back (at least for my truck).
 
I run BFG A/T KO in 285 trim on my F-350 Super Duty and absolutely love the traction... really don't need 4wd when both sleds are loaded unless its REALLY bad out.:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap I would definitely stick with an E rated tire and run about 75 psi to help take the sway out with all that weight that high up.

I am on my second set of 285 bfg at ko's, love em. where i live, the traction is good on the main roads, but we live on a backroad with extreme elevation and snow, no studs + trailer = 1 mailbox, 2 ditches and multiple "close calls." last winter. therefore i am goin with a set of studded, siped tires, just not sure which ones.
 
I almost got the Duratrac but I was turned away by multiple reviews stating that people felt the tread move causing the truck to sway a little. I thought it was BS until I found more of the same reviews at different sites.

I read the same reviews those, but I bought them anyways. I'm glad I did. I don't experience any swaying at all. I'm not sure if people are putting the wrong sized tires on skinny wheels or running incorrect air pressure.

They're the best tire I've ever had!

Toyo mt. Best tire I've ever ran. Set on my truck now has 55000 miles on them and still has at least another 10k left

Toyo mt's aren't studdable right? According to Les Scwaab, the only 10 ply they offer is the M-55 which looks to be less than desireable snow traction.
 
If you are looking for a studdable tire for snow and ice then you need to get a tall skinny tire and not a fat one. I usually run two sets of tires and rims,but the Geolanders work so well that when my winter tires wore out after ten seasons I tried them in the winter and liked em so much I run them all year round.
 
BLK88GT, do you run those tires year round?
I just saw two more trucks tonight with them on...

I am running 285/65/18 Nitto Trail Grappler MT's and love them. I am sure the Duratracs will be good too

EVerything I have read on these tires seems to say they should be awesome. Very few negative comments and lot of people living in snow country are liking them studded or non-studded.

Good to know about the Duratracs. Looks like you have the Cognito UCA's and Bilsteins too. I love that setup on my GMC.
 
just throwing my opinion out there, not sure how philsummers got 55k out of his toyo mts, but i got a set of toyo open country m/ts on my work truck, have about 12k on and i would be lucky if i get another 12k granted a majority of my driving is on oilfield gravel roads. I would say 50/50 paved/gravel, not impressed, but luckily i didnt pay for them and i will be getting a set of studded duratracs for the winter.

On the other hand I have a set of Hankook Dynapros on my dmax and they are holding up very well, have about 20,000 on them, and dont look much different from the day i got them. They do fair in the winter time, nothing like a studded tire, but got me everywhere i needed to go.
 
another + for the hankook dynapro atm's... really good tire, got 15k on mine so far and about 10k had sleds and deck on it. they are holding up really well and for an e-rated 265 i only dropped $600, ill run em till i can buy em anymore. i used 4wd this winter to start uphill on ice. thats about it.

Yes, they're my only set. They're very, very popular up here. Alot of the hydro and highway fleet vehicles run them. A buddy runs a diesel shop and at least 50% of the truck coming through there have these tires.

I'm not sure what the sway issue people talk about is, but most seem to be related to the 285/75/16 size from what I saw. Maybe they're running too skinny of a wheel?

I'm running a 9" wide wheel with 295/65/18s.

Bugito, I did this setup before I even drove the truck. It's been great so far. The only thing I'd like to do is add a set of airbags out back for some of the bigger loads.
