Decision

OK, I need some input. There are a few threads on Snowest about 2016 vs 2017, 2.6 vs 3, etc. But now I need to make a decision. I found a holdover 2016 Pro 155, with a 2.6 - $10,500. Not a bad price. I also found a 2017 155, with a 3.0 that is the retro color, which I love. Price is $11,900, with a 3 yr warranty. Not sure there are really any major changes for 2017 that warrant the extra $1,400. So, I'd basically be paying extra for a cool color and extra warranty. Not to mention I would be giving up the quick drive. Anything major that I'm missing here? Thanks.

If you found a new holdover 16- you should still get a warranty-
might be only a 2 year though-
I would jump on the 16, and you have almost 1/2 of a turbo already in your pocket....if not you can sure buy some goodies with the savings- warp- boards- can..... the 3" ok but is not a game changer.

I paid that for a 16 back in january id hope you could get it for less than that. Unless thats an out the door price

Even if it's only a 2 year warranty, your dealer should be able to offer another 2 year (for 4 years total) for around $600.

I like to change sleds every 2-3 years. It's getting harder because they are more expensive every year and some people cannot buy a 2 year used sled for $9kish. So, I'd buy a sled for as cheap as you can. Take the '16 and wrap it, and do a SLP pipe/can for the price difference. The QD was solid last year. I didn't hear of any belt issues. That less rotating mass does add up. Also, instead of the 3", the 2.6 was great but if you want more you can opt for the new Conquer track.

for a extra 1400 u get a better track and newer sled that people will look for when buying used off u. 3 year warranty that u can also still add extended warranty to I'm pritty sure. the chain case may be a bit slower but is stronger and needed with a 3inch and not that notice able of a difference when it actually comes down to it no belts and tools to carry around with u and that u will have to spend something like 400 bucks on don't quot me on that price. and the retro design. id get the 17

"better track" is quite debatable and very personal preference.

But you are right, don't need a spare QD belt or the tools to change it if he was to get the 3" with chain case because if you explode your chain case no tools or belt you have on you will get that sled out under its own power.

Nailed it. That's my take on that as well. Had it happen to my buddies sled last year. Man was that fun getting him out. My QD belt towed pretty well though.

Last I heard, buying someone else's snow check meant you were technically the second owner and the warranty only applies to you. You can't sell it later with remaining warranty.

Depending on where you ride, there are many cases reported where the 2.6 has outperformed the 3.0

The QD is just as reliable as a chain case

There is no real tangible reason to buy the '17 unless you WANT it, which I get. I too love the retro color and if it also had the clicker shocks the bump might be worth it. Otherwise it is pretty much the same sled and my in season '16 was the best sled I have ever owned.

The warranty is transferable. I think it was $50 to do so and you have to visit a dealer to transfer paperwork. Pretty easy though.

The 2.6 is certainly the better track for all conditions.

Agreed. In a very large group of Axys sleds (20-25) this last year, I don't think one person lost a belt. The tool is cheap through SmileFace Products (I think that's their name) and we all figure that we can share a belt.

I'd like to ask the question a different way.

To those that have had both years of Axys or been into both (assuming '17's are in some garages-shops) and ignoring track and drive preferences, is there anything obviously improved or different that you see?

BNG! and coated A-Arms!

Im in the same boat, left over floor model 16 or find a snowcheck 17. I rode a 163 3" last year and loved it, wanted to find a 3" 17 but not the fully loaded LE sleds they want 15 G's for. I found 16's for 10,800 (155) or 11,100 (163) and did find several 17 snowcheck sleds. They were either demo sleds or sleds that guys backed out on.
In the end I went with a 17 163 2.6 all Black snowcheck with clicker shocks. I really wanted the painted tunnel and suspension, it does help shed the snow. Going to gear it down a touch and see what I think. Can also add the 3" track if I'm not happy with the 2.6. Oh yeah....Got the 17 for 11,850 :face-icon-small-ton Eric

You got it for $11,850 but the dealer actually sold it for $12,350, correct? I'm assuming they didn't give the original "snowchecker" his/her money back??

Thanks for the replies guys. All good points. I ended up going with the 17. In the end, going with the 16 probably would have been the more "financially sound" decision, but whatever. I got the sled I wanted for what I thought was a great price. This dealer ordered a few snow check sleds for inventory, so this isn't one that someone backed out on. And his pricing is the best that I could find out here in the flat lands. I called all over looking for a 16 initially and this guy had just sold his last one for $9,900 - OTD, so i started talking to him about 17s and ended up with this one. John Kost at Herreid Sporting Center - Herreid, SD. Check him out if you're looking.

Glad it worked out for you. I will never go back to a chain case sled myself. I love the QD. It works well. Gearing a 2.6 QD down doesn't make sense either. They are geared properly.

Congrats on the new iron.

I would have said go with the 17. A couple more refinements and one year newer for less than most would have to pay to go one year newer. The 16 will take a bigger hit by mid / late season, so personally I think you did good.
