Decal removing tips?

Im tryin to take old, stock decals off my 99 670X, i was out there for a good 15-20 mins and only got little bits and pieces with a razor, just tears apart and dosnt want to peel off. Any good tips? Sounds like mabey ALOT of patients is my best bet? Any ide'ers? :rolleyes:

heat gun.

If Hi/Lo setting use Lo and don't torch/bubble the hood. Dont blast away with the heat gun, even on Lo, on only one small spot...keep the gun moving a bit. Once you heat them up they come off real easy. Sticky residue comes off easy with a cleaner wax or a product like Sticker Shock.....gas can be a bit harsh on the finish. I've never had a sled where i didnt take off decals. Factory decals a bit too loud for me.

i just used my wifes hair dryer it worked awesome . it tookme probably 15 to 20 minutes to take all my decals off my m8.the plastic side panels had some sticky residue left on them but i just used wd40 toclean it off.:beer;

Ditto on the blow dryer. Safer on your plastics, cheap to buy and good to have in the shop.

Sweet, thanks guys. Blow dryer it is. Dont have a heat gun but do have 3 girls in the house. Now, which hairdryer to use.... The $10 one with hi/low, OR the $100 one with 30 settings, reclining seats and cruise contol... :D:p.

only go with the high dollar unit if you have heat in the garage... if the wife catches you she may make you sleep out there! :eek:

Use a blowdryer, heat gun will cause the plastic to tear on your sled. If all the adhesive does not come off use some Naptha from your local hardware store to remove it.

Yep heat gun. Just took some off, only thing that Ive noticed is that the older the sticker the harder they come off, and more heat does not mean they come off easier:eek:

X4 on the blow dryer, even on low most heat guns are too hot, you can soften the paint if you're not careful. Go to the paint aisle at you local hardware store and get some plastic paint scrapers or plastic razor blades, you can scrape as hard as you want and not hurt the paint with these. After I get the decals off I use mineral spirits to get the glue off, just don't do it out in the sun or when it is hot.

hair dryer works very well. one thing i would take into consideration before doing it is sence it is an older sled, there might be color differences and it will look like crap once decals are tooken off if it has been out in the sun much..
just my .02 worth.

Use duct tape to remove the adhesive residue. it works best if you havent already used any chemicals on it. a little heat helps here too. just stick the sticky side to the residue and keep blotting at it and it comes off.

I have done my last 5 sleds this way, before that I was going through he!! trying to remove the blobs of goo that it becomes with solvent type cleaners.
good luck!

Did one side today, took me over 2hrs. I took the "summit" decal off the side, cleaned it with heavy duty laquer thinner (bout 20-30mins). It being 10 years old didint make it easy, what a *****! i'll put some pics up when i take em.
