Dear Polaris, I would like a Pro XLT

Xtra Light Turbo

I'm hopefully waiting for Polaris to release a lightweight four stroke turbo. Around 450lbs and 185hp stock. With the ability to add some simple aftermarket goodies to make it 200-220hp.

I feel that Polaris is not doing much development with their two stroke and spending time refining the chassis and components for a reason. Hopefully, this will be the outcome. Don't get me wrong I love my two strokes and the 800 pro but a xtra light turbo four stroke would be awesome! Lightweight, reliability, and power.

Doubt it will happen soon. They are selling Pros like big macs. Maybe 3 years.

I would settle for a 800 that is on par with the Suzuki motor in the cats. But, still like the idea..... XLT....

Just drop one of the old 750 4 stroke motors in, and you have what you are lookin for...

This is a great idea. Engine durability/ reliabilty seem to be the Pro 800's weak link/ only glaring defect.

Otherwise the sled is great -- nimble, solid, fun, easy to wrench on. I love the Pro but I'm realistic this motor is a ticking time bomb. Thank god for extended service contracts, eh.....

Dear Polaris. I would like you to build an 800 Motor that lasts a season or two...

Agreed and one that even when running good doesn't get annihilated by the competition. I may be able to out side-hill them but a good running cat flat walks away from these sleds. I just want the best of both worlds! It's not really that much to ask.

You mean like this?

Is there anyway to make one push 250-300? My understanding is they top out around 225? When your best buddy rides a big tripple with a turbo the size of a grain vac, you need a little more power than the average bear to keep up.

Maybe they just havent been messed with enough.

tdbaugha... thats tight, anymore details?

That's Michigan Tech's IC sled for the Clean Snowmobile Challenge. It's a 2011 Switchback with the tunnel shortened and a Ski-Doo SC-5 rear skid. The motor is the 750cc Weber from the FST running the stock turbo and AEM for control. We have a flex fuel sensor on board and it will run anything from E10 to E85 without a problem. Custom intake runners, motor mounts, TIED secondary, etc, etc. Custom muffler and catalytic converter all within the stock plastics. This year we added a TiAL blowoff valve to run higher boost. With the heavy SC-5 suspension and huge exhaust setup we got the sled down to something like 550lbs ready to ride. I'll have to find the actual number. We shaved weight off every inch though, even down to machining the racer style throttle block down a bit more. After competition was over, we turned the boost up, put a straight pipe on it and added a ton of fuel and it ripped. Entirely designed, fabricated, and tuned by a handful of students here at Michigan Tech.

That Nytro to the right is a sweet looking runner.... the most sexy

Haha yeah... There are some pretty nasty looking sleds at competition. We try pretty hard to maintain the stock appearance and have something that is fun to ride.

I have heard a rumor from several sources that Polaris has a 1400 twin four stroke around the 150-160 hp range that they are going to put in the Rangers possibly next year. My guess is if that is true it will make its way to the Pro in a couple of years.

ahh the good old days, when life was easy. drink beer, go to some classes, work on sleds... You guys really rearranged that place. Is that whole bay yours now? did Baja and that hybrid truck team move out? I see boardsports got bigger and has that corner where the cage was...

Yeah that picture only shows a fraction of our space we have now. Baja and boardsports are still in the assembly area. This past year we also moved the whole dyno setup to the ATDC. This is only my second year on the team so I don't know where everything used to be. The "cage" is upstairs in the assembly area.
