Dealing with torn muscles or muscle pain?

I was riding several years ago (6 or 7) and got stuck in a spot that had to go solo to get it out of. I pulled the muscle in my shoulder to the point of a burning hot knife feeling. I have had muscle strain before and just iced it etc. and took it easy. But this one is different, it keeps coming back up and honestly when you raise your arms to handle bar height it is nearly unbearable after just a few hours of riding.

I used to go see a deep muscle theropy gal (like 70+ years old dont laugh) and she told me it was a tear and twisted knot in the blade area. I never thought she could fix it being the frail ole lady she was but I am here to tell you that gal could get Chuck Norris to tap out!!! I would go back to her when ever it started to bother and she could get it straightend out. She never once tried to get a book of visits in place and when I asked when I should return she said......."only come back if it starts to hurt again and not until"

Truth is when she straightend that muscle it would be better for months still noticable but not the burning. She has since passed away and I have tried several "quacks" and supposed deep muscle theropy places. They are all fluff and bs with massive appointment books for "your next visit". Heck I even went to one DUDES house with a add on to his garage for his theropy business, I think I was violated on that day.

When ever I go out to ride it is no more than 2-3 hours and that burning knife in the shoulder blade starts acting up. I know we are all getting older but honestly there HAS to be a fix for this or I may as well just sell all my stuff and give it up.

Anybody else battle this? if so what was your solution?

Sorry if this seems overly obvious, but have you tried an actual doctor?

My experiences with physiotherapy have been exactly what you described. Nobody had any idea wtf was the real problem and they just tried different "fixes" without knowing the actual root cause. I went to see my Dr, got an MRI and was informed that the only thing I could do was to stop punishing my back by lifting **** I shouldn't! Imagine that, I feel great again.

Get a proper diagnosis of the actual issue and then formulate a game plan. Not the other way around.

Get a MRI

I have a similar problem in my shoulder from an old sled crash (5 years ago)and after a MRI the doctor sent me to physical therapy. The ultrasound broke up all the inflamation and they started me on a workout routine that has helped. It will still get sore and needs to be iced at the end of a day of riding but it does not burn like you were talking about and it is getting stronger by the day. Mine will require surgery to completely fix, but this is going to allow me to wait until the snow is gone and not miss a season on the snow.

I have had some similar issues over the years. I have had the best luck with electro therapy. I run about 15 minutes twice a day. This increases the blood flow to the muscles and even around the tendon connections. And it speeds healing.

When I went to physical therapy they have you doing 20-40 reps with little or no weight. (12oz) type of movements. This is to increase the blood flow without doing damage.

So the electro therapy does this very easily.

Works pretty darn good for me.

Lots of Oxycontin!

........................Just kidding, Bad joke! Stay away from that sh)T! It'll ruin your life!

Go see a specialist and see what he thinks(MRI I would bet)..This car accident last march did whats called a slap tear and damage to the rotator cuff..I need surgery to repair it, you might get lucky and some physical therapy will fix it..but I doubt it...

Tore my back last summer badly. Electro therapy was amazing. The unit I used is 60 bucks from chiro office.

You most likely have a partially torn supraspinatous or infraspinatous(rotator cuff muscle). I am familiar with the injury and have seen several of my own patients with this same injury. Simply put, you need an MRI. PM me if you have questions.

Ortman clinic in canistota sd has helped my shoulder a lot. Check them out before any surgery.
