This guy is one huge flamming problem child. He belongs on Dr. Drew not Deadliest Catch. Hope he's toast next year. Who the heck would want to fish on his boat.

AGREED! No respect for his crew, the other captains, of the boat.
Anybody that has never fished, doesn't value their life, and only wants to be on TV...
He needs to leave the phone at the dock! Luckily when I ran boats, sat phones didn't exist and KMI was $5 a minute.

Personally, I think the biggest thing he needs to improve on is how to manage the morale of the crew... seems like they are always miserable on the boat and any time they get their spirits up, Elliot finds a way to upset everyone again.
There ya go! That explains it. With a name like Elliot he should be a librarian not a captain of a crab boat.

Lot's of reasons. Owner is an A$$ and no one else will work for him? Boat is a total pile of crap with poor maintenance and smart people would rather not run it for fear of it going down? Or boat owner and him are family or owner is family friend of his father?
What really surprises me is how he was able to get his license. Passing the rules of the road requires 90% or better. I've had many retired airline pilot's tell me that the Captain's license test's are much more difficult than Pilot's license's and endorsements.
I got mine at 19 and my private pilot at 18 with a instrument and commercial rating. The captain's tests were much more difficult.
