An hour into a powder tour on a 20 degree afternoon, I shut of my handwarmers. Three minutes later, the ole girl starts to miss and all three idiot lights (brake, reverse and oil) start blinking simultaneously. Starts to miss more- right at the creek crossing! Doesn't make it up and out. Shut er down and wait a few minutes. Fires up, engages in reverse, back up, try again. No go and after a little cool down- no start.
I'm thinking voltage regulator. If it is the VR, I have the following questions.
1) Embarassingly enough, where is it?
2) Can I test it?
3) If VR went, did ECU fry too?
Probably need to tow her out at this point. :face-icon-small-dis

hmm...

not sure but to answer your VR questions...

1. on an 05, the VR is under the ECU, on the 06, its right behind the secondary, next to the ECU .

2. i cant find any info on testing the VR. but i have one you can have if you need to swap test it...

3. the ECU may or may not be fried with the VR...the Dragons had that problem, but had to say....test one thing at a time.

You may have a short in your warmers or in the wiring up near the bars. mine did this last year and then started to miss and die. Maybe try unpluging the bars heaters.

On my way to tow her out. Gonna use the 583 and an RMK 700. Its about two miles in, all powder and no trail. Never towed with two sleds before. Gonna be an adventure. I'll try unplugging the handwarmers and see if she runs. Will probably take Guido up on his VR if I can't figure anything else out. Have to leave for a weeklong class this afternoon:face-icon-small-blu

Got her out on Sunday. Only needed to use the RMK 700. Almost an epic. Lesson learned- Never ghost ride the towed sled! Way below zero temps all week while I've been away at Water Treatment class. Glad to have that hunk of iron sitting on the trailer in the driveway. I'll dig into it soon.:clock:
