DD drive

Has anyone had this happen. Went to unload and and track or DD was locked up. Couldn't turn the secondary or track by hand. Track was not frozen to the ground and parking brake was off. Started the sled again and put it in reverse, sled backed up then shifted to forward and the sled went fine. No filings in oil, have done the double width bearing upgrade.

I had it happen, I think it was from snow/ice build up around my brake disc. or something like that. pounded it out and had to really jerk the track back and forth and it finally freed up and went fine.

If you haven't pulled it apart, there could still be damage inside. Did you just drain the oil and use the flush to change the oil? As many times as I've had DD troubles, I'd pull it apart. Sometimes they will lock up and then unlock but that doesn't mean all is well. In fact that means you've got problems and had better pull it apart before it locks up for good and you're in a bad spot, and believe me when I say that if there is damage inside, it will lock up on you and stay that way if you don't fix the problem.

That just happened to me recently. My buddy took it apart and found the big spring clip out of place. He said everything looked fine without any damage. My first ride after that, every time I would let off the throttle, it would stop pretty quickly like something was rubbing or binding still. I ended up pulling it all apart again and replaced all of the bearings with a bdx bearing kit. I completely cleaned it out with a parts washer and everything. There was absolutely no damage to any of the gears or parts. I put it back together and everything feels good again. I don't know what caused it to bind. All of the parts were completely undamaged and like i said, it runs fine again.

happened the other day in my trailer. Found ice built up around the brake. peed me off . just about wrecked a belt. flipped it on its side and reved it up. let go with the weight off.

I'd bet a beer that it's chunks of the bearing cage from the transfer gear laying in the bottom. Caught in your planetary.

Ask me how I know...

happened to me awile back as well... put a heat lamp on the brake caliper and 20 minutes later it was good as new. When that happened to me everyone said that it was some moisture that got into the DD and froze (it was a very cold spell) Haven't had trouble again but i will pull my DD at the end of the season just to see how all is doing.

Well there was no snow build up in the sled as it just came from a heated shop. There was a rail tip snubber missing not sure if it was caught in the track. Yook the DD apart and found no issues, the oil was a little merky and had some metal flecks in it? Any other ideas

Sounds like my friends 08 m8, the copper washers ( forget what they're called) Came out in his planatery and were causeing it to grind, I've also herd of the M sleds brakes sticking..... I'd pull the DD and have a look, for the time it takes...

brake lock up

Have had this happen to me several times.

1st - tried to store a shovel in the brake area, shovel did not touch the brake but was near the brake, with the fine snow we were riding in when ever I would shut down and let cool off in very cold temps. the track would be locked up. Removed shovel, did not happen again.

2nd- was doing some clutching, had the brake set overnight next day had to break the drive train loose, brake would not completely release.
