can't say I've ever seen it but most of my time has been around beef cattle.

Back when we had our dairy we came across a cow or two that did that ocassionally. No explanation.....wasn't starving,low on minerals, overall healthy cows........go figure

No, I have never seen a cow do that, but after saying that I did have a cow that actually chewed her teats off. Pi$$ed me off big time, she had three of them gone by the time I figured out what was happening.
