2009 Dragon 800. 1500 miles. new clutch. Stock. New flash, 400 miles on new 2010 parts. Top end looks fine.

Riding normal perfectly warmed up and 3 miles from the truck without pinning it open this happens...

Threw a rod bearing on the crank. Wasn't even anything left of the bearing when the dealer pulled the motor. 3rd failure on this POS and now a junk crank to go with it? I'm fricking stock at 10K + ft for god sake. What, I make ~100hp up here and I throw a rod bearing? Sorry for the rant but this is rediculous!

Dealer is sending pics to Polaris. Doesn't look like it was from HEAT either the dealer said. Hopefully Polaris lives up to their mistake and gives me a new long block. If this isn't warrantied I'm gonna flip.

check out the thread "if your 800 sucks" you might want to jump on the same train not that it will get you anywhere but atleast they will relize after 15years people are not going to put up with this stuff anymore, my guess is 90% of the people that buy polaris are brand loyal and the other are not. so when you buy junk after junk thinking this year is the year to have then the next, you get the picture those people are going to look hard at other brands. polaris would sell these sleds like crazy if they didnt have the engine problems they do. i love this chassis well we all do thats why we own them

97ish-2006 all cranks in all there sleds are junk pretty sad when my crank guy made me bring my cases to put my crank in before i pic it up so it wouldnt put it out of phase

08-2010 800 burn down city unless power commander for $400ish dollars would be nice to have a pipe instead?

08-2010 vr/ecu failures polaris is takeing care of it but still i dont like going out knowing i might be getting towed back and where i ride i know its not going to be fun getting it out

same thing happend to mine except I had 0 problems for 3000 miles, the I get the update done and 50 miles later it takes out the pto rod bearing and every thing on that side of the motor, the good news is poo sent a new engine, the bad is I drove 1150 mi. one way in the truck to ride 50 and blow the motor , I am not very happy.

Sleds

So far these cranks are working awesome for us. Just make sure you fog them when you put it away!!

For the most part the crank is solid and works good. The problem lies in everything surrounding it. Poor case design from what I've seen. IndyDan has really identified some issues with the lower end on these sleds. I'm not even an engineer and I know better than to do some of the things they did. And certainly had ideas of ways to do it better. I just wish I had a machine shop at my disposal. What they pass off as cutting edge engineering wouldn't be allowed out of a high school small engines class.
If you blow a belt or seize a piston, you have probably damaged something in the lower end. I don't care what they say. When your motor comes to a sudden unanticipated stop, something is going to torque and the crank is at the receiving end. As strong as this crank is, it is not bullet proof.

I agree completely, it seems to be problems with the casting of the case and a quality control issue. As I've said before, those without problems just keep running. Those with problems can't get them fixed to save their lives. IMHO Polaris just needs to give these people complete new motors and not just try to change a part or two.
