mag side popped 2010 d8 670 miles
previous symtoms were noticed in the rpm, it would not pull 8200. it was stuck on 7800 rpm with 62 grams tried 60 grams and 58 grams. the clutch changes didnt raise rpm
i told him to keep watching his tach but he is not a tuner so we know how that goes. he just said it was running really good until this but still not hitting the 8200, was still 7800

does anybody have a clue what could have been failing before the motor popped? bad ecu? bad injector? mag side seal? etc?
what are some tests we can do to the electrical parts when we re assemble?
does anybody have some good cases for sale?

some aluminum on the piston

Hate to say this but part it out!! My buddy got about 5K for parting out a 08 with blown motor like yours.

pointers

any pointers when i go back togather?
torque specs?
butterfly height in throttle body?
other tricks?

copy and paste

Out of the service manual
head cover 25 ft.lbs
cylinder bolts 42 ft.lbs
knock sensor 168 in.lbs
temp sensor 18 ft.lbs
fuel rail 9 ft.lbs
ex manifold 22 ft.lbs
spark plug 18 ft.lbs

I think thats all for a top end?

I'd have to agree with jeff95 on this. I had my share of problems last year on a 09 dragon. Total cost to rebuild motor the first time was 900.00 out of my pocket and I did the labor myself. That was at 600 miles, put the gizmo on and religiously warmed the sled up every time it was shut off. Another 600 miles later this last weekend the cyliner skirt broke of taking out my crank case and possibly the crank, piston, and head. Cost to fix this time is 3500.00 to possibly a new motor costing 4600.00. Polaris makes a good riding chasis but their engineers need to do something about the motors. With the way they are designing these short blocks with the acute rod angle and loading the pistons against the cylinder skirting they are going to continue having nothing but problems. I'm not even convinced that their new pros are going to hold up.
