Hey guys ive got a m8 bd turbo and am looking for more or a big block torque feel. would the 901 add some low end grunt? i also have a line on a m1 motor that i could drop in. i would like to stick with the m8 base as it has the det sensor and seems to be more reliable then the m1 motor but need something to increase the bottom end grunt.
stats:
09m8
bd race gas turbo
55/65 gears

let me know you opinions,
thanks

I put 5 925 bb on the snow last year all ran great and pull with the 1000 they seem to like 15#s or above

Cutler's has a new BB 900 kit using stock 900 pistons and very impressive looking jugs with a sweet billet head. Putting out the same HP and torque of the 1000 with the reliability of the 800!

Should be cool on boost!

a stock m1000??? you could do the same to the m1000 and it would rip too.

The grunt of the m1000 comes from the stoke which is 8mm longer than the m8, its a stroker. The bore is only 5mm larger. also why they make so much on boost.

You could do all that to the 1000! But this post was about a guy that has an m8 and was lookin for info on BB 900's. And he also was lookin to keep some reliability with turbo.

So I was letting him know that Cutler had something worth lookin at and still have a bomb proof motor.

ive heard that bd is doing r&D with d&d thats why i specified there big bore. the speedwerx setup also is a player. the main factor im looking for im more low end pull. i usually run 12-14lbs on 112. i also like to turn it down and run av gas now and then. ive heard rumors about the cutler kit, hes using the stock m1 pistons which is a nice option but im sure it will cost a guy$$.

so the question is, bb 8 or transpant a m1 motor for more torque.

thanks guys

I vote for using an M1000 motor. Cat was selling off new M1000 motors this spring, which FreeAgent had posted for $1995.00. It will be hard to get a BB up and running for that price. Here is a link to that thred: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=215596

M1 parts will also be more readily available. M1T's have been around for a number of years so getting help for tuning would also be quicker/easier should you need it.

You should also talk with product test or some of the other builders about turbo sizing as that will factor into your decision. I believe bd M8 kit uses a 2871 where as the M1000's are running a 3071. I have no idea what would be an appropriate sized turbo for a sled in the 900cc range.

decisions....decisions...

I was just pointing out that there is far more potential from the 1000, and if you want torque its the way to go(STROKER). If you want something specific you have to pay.

just some info

My dealer rides m8t and says when you squeeze the throttle on the m1000 its hang on time, my friend that rode his m1000 stock and then turbo'd it (and has rode the dealers m8t many times) say that the m8 feels like it just starts to go and then takes off like a bomb went off, he says his m1T starts pulling and never quits. Nice and smooth. I have ridden it and it is smooth and pulls as hard as my 09 slp piped m1000 does right off the bottom or harder, and after 10 ft it just pulls away.(this is starting on a slope not on flat ground)

His is a bd pg kit and on 6lbs walks away from a 2010 m8 bd kit at 8lbs.

I was thinking about the same upgrade for my 8 , and looked into big bore kits. I ended up with an 09 M1000 162 SP , now the 8 is going to be the loaner turbo sled . My TM1 may end up with a new set of jugs one day though .

The big bore on an 8 and the 1200 kits are not that far off on price , and the bigger the jugs the better .:face-icon-small-sho

thanks for the replys guys, i think im going to go with the m1 motor to keep stock internals, for now, and see what this m1 turbo is all about. i came off a big bore triple and miss that feel.

not to change the subject to much but what kind of boost numbers could i expect to see out a a m1 on av gas. do you recommend changing the porting, or compression on this motor.

thanks

I recommend calling twisted turbo, they will at the very least give you some good info. From the sounds of things even on PG with porting he can make them flat pull. He stated once he pulled "205hp from a M1T on 4.5lbs at 4,300ft" elevation, which is pretty dang impressive at that elevation. I know from my buddies bd pg kit that going from 4.5lbs to 6 is a huge difference. I personally would go with the RG X-treme twisted kit. If your going to spend the money why not. But if your a long way away from them and there is a reputable dealer that puts out good running sleds you may want to look at them, unless your extremely confident you can tune a turbo.
