Cutting vent holes?

Just wondering how you guys go about cutting your vent holes? Do the vents come with a template of do you just freehand it and bust out the jig saw?

Holz vents come with templates. A rotozip works good (hold on tight), a body saw or I have used an exacto knife.

Like Av8r said, rotozip works good, just need to have the vacuum there to suck up the shavings.

ok thanks for the help that is a nice lookin tool! Ok now the big question what vents would you guy suggest? Im just a flatlander so powder is really not a concern I just want the motor to run cooler

We advise using a hole saw, usually a one incher and use the frame as a template on the vents and then you can freehand an inner line to not cut across...use the hole saw all over the place to leave rigidity and stifness to your panel but still increase the flow by 85-90% works real great for our product, contact Bill at Mountain Fit Hoods he will get you set up...plus if you break it we replace it for free..

yah i would suggest the hole saw........its way easier and stronger, ive done both and half way threw using a saw to cut around a traced template i was wishing i just did large multiple holes. I find they look better cutting the same as the vent but if i was to do it again its going to be a hole saw for sure

most vents come with a template. I usually just use a relly sharp utility knife. Make sure you check and make sure the template is the same size as the vent. I had a vent this year that was a different size then the template. luckily the vent was bigger then the template.

Use a sharp punch to mark along inside opening of vent.

Use a 4" grinder with a cut off wheel. Works like a hot knife in butter.

Drill corners, just like alum. Use a dremel with a cutoff wheel, like a hot knife through soft butter, go slow, if you don't want to use a hole saw.

Just cut the panels on my Pro.. Used a hole saw on the corners and a narrow cut off wheel on my 4.5 inch grinder. I have used both a Dremel and the cut-off wheel and found the grinder with cut-off wheel to be much easier and cleaner.
