cutting out warm

last spring my 06 sb,was cutting out after half hour or so. it would rev to 7400, when pulling hard up a hill it would drop down to 3500 rpm. let off the throttle and feather it and it would go back to7400 rpm for a while. then do it all over again. if you stoped for half hour it would be good again . tried fuel filter, tps adjustment, checked tps wires, any thing else to check clutching is new and clean. possible stator?

First thought was tps....then stator....I have heard this happen before and it was the stator...

Could be many things ... short in wire most likely. Check / replace wires to TPS .

Check harness under fuel tank

Check voltage regulator, stator, fuel tank, filters, loose shorted sensor and or a combination like shorted sensor with cracked boot.

i vote stator....test it (and the few things donbrown mentioned as well..might as well test them in the mean time.)

oil cable or y-pipe bolts

My 900 used to cut out once in awhile from the y-pipe bolts being too loose and the other time it would bog from the factory oil cable sticking and holding the oil pump open.

Yours does sound like it could be the stator or tps harness like the others have already said, since you can only reach 3500 rpms at times.

I took off the flywheel and inner sleave was loose, it was rubbing on the stator wires. reglued in the flywheel sleeve,repaired the stator wires. also noticed a throttle body boot ripped underneith. replaced both of them . so far the problem seems to be fixed.

Thanks I have an 05 fusion that is doing similar thing after 20 30 minutes id would just die throw you over the handle bar die took it in last to dealer because i did not want to just start changining parts they replaced tps pig tail brought it home same prob took it back they said they thought the fuel reg was bad but had to buy the whole assembly so they did 900.00 later get it home didn't make it from the truck to the shed and it did same thing. I thought from reading on here it was stator but figured I would take it to dealer to know for sure silly me. How difficult is it to change pull the motor to get bottom screw of recoil any special tools?

first off...if the dealer told you it was the fuel rail or the TPS and it did not fix the issue, you shouldnt be liable for that..thats BS..thats their fault for bad troubleshooting..

to get the bolts from the recoil (lower) just remove the rear mount bolts, and frmove the lower front crossmember bolts and loosen the top bolts on the front cross member...this way you can SLIGHTLY tilt the motor fwd and get to the bolts..leave them out from now on..

BUT..you do not have to remove the recoil housing to test the stator unless your looking for the sleeve like stated above..if you wanna tes the stator, you have to remove the fuel tank and get to the wiring from the back..but just know...SOME stators will test fine, but are infact BAD..

start a thread on here to get some more inputs to your problem..:beer;
