Cutting of plastic body parts ?

Hey guys,

I would need some tips on how to cut off the plastic body of a Hawk and do a nice clean looking job. Which tool should I use? Does anyody know what AD-B use to do the stock cutting ? Must be some kind of a heated something that cuts through plastic doesn't it ?

The part I want to get rid of are the ribs on each side of the gas tank, they've been bugging me ever since my very first ride on a Hawk and I think they're a design flaw as they don't allow you to squeeze the tank properly with your legs... and there is no way i'm gonna keep it like that for another season.

I think I remember seeing a machine with the tank/seat/rear fender plastic totally cut down with no side panels on a thread somewhere but can't find it back. Was it one of yours 877Snowhawk ?

I will appreciate any advice ! Thanks !

What I used

When I cut out my fender for the gas rack, I cut out a cardboard template taped it to the area, Used a solder gun and gently went around the template with OUT cutting all the way through. Kinda like scribing. Then took a new utility knife and cut the rest of the way. Then used the knive to trim any excess plastic from the top or out side of the plastic. Work Flawless. Perfect square.

Good luck. and post some pic's if it goes well.

Tom
