Cutting down track lugs

Has anyone had any experience cutting Down there lugs? I was wonder if it in fact makes the lugs grab harder on the hard pack, and wondering how it will effect the longevity of the lugs them self. I do a combination of all riding and my thoughts were to cut down a 3" to around 2.5-2.75". In turn giving me more traction than a regular 2.6" lug on hard pack, yet still keeping that deep snow lug. Thoughts, comments concerns?

I cut down the stock Polaris track on my 2011 and yes there is a very noticeable difference on set up/hard snow. Probably does give up a bit in deep powder though.

Powder for life thank you for that post. Very helpful. Any thoughts on gearing for the 7 tooth drivers

Cutting down a 3" track would be a waste IMHO. If you want something super stiff get an assault track. Camo Extreme 2.5 is my favorite however (9104M?) stiffer than stock and a bit taller. Before that I ran a stock Polaris track with the tips trimmed off (IQ thread on that a while back, can't find the bookmark now). I liked that better than stock, stiffer and did not seem to give up much in powder. But then went to the Camo Extreme 2.5 and never looked back... stiff enough for spring concrete and still worked decent in powder.

IMHO, don't cut a 3" - worth way too much $$ as-is. Sell it and buy a CamoX.

But that is just me. :becky:

A peak track is stiff lug track isnt it?

I believe it is, especially the early versions... everything I read when I went with the 9104 CE over the Peak, the Camo Extreme performed as well or better than the peak. Never having had both side by side on the same sled I can't say for sure but I never regretted going with the CE even in pow (the Peak can be a trencher I hear), and the downhill braking and spring condition improvements over stock were great. We often ride into late May or June. The modified stock Polaris track (nibs cut off) helped a lot in hardpack, especially in downhill situations, the only thing was on super packed trails / ice the tail end would get loose easier...
