Crossfire 8 to 153 powerclaw?

Okay,
Coming off an 04 ski doo rev summit x 151, loved the way it rode and performed, hated working on it all the time. So now i've bought a cat, it an 07 crossfire 8 holdover, 0 miles, price was just to good to pass up. I'm good friends with the dealer owner, and he's pretty sure with a new bumper out back, 151 rail extensions, a big wheel kit, and a little heat exchanger mod we can fit the new 153 powerclaw track under this thing. Also going to add the new 09 adjustable steering post, and probably re-gear the thing more like an M8. I like the fact the crossfire has a little more beef to it, i don't mind a little extra weight if it holds up better in the long run. Anyone done something like this??? Or have any suggestions on what TO do, or NOT to do?

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the link, what you've done looks impressive! I think this will be a fun sled after the dealer and i get it put together, I boondock and jump alot, so this sled I'm hoping will be geared a little more towards that style of ridding, i do climb and ride deep powder, but to be honest it's only about 50 percent of the time. Just trying to make an all around good sled ya know?

If you boondock and jump alot I would consider putting a 141 powerclaw on. Your tunnel would be fine, all you would need is rail extensions.

One of my riding buddies rides a M7 141 and they are a very capable machine. Just a thought!

just my 2 cents u are going to have to go with 3inch pitch extroverts and you are going to have to do something with your stock rails because they are to long in the front and they do not give the extroverts enough room to clear so if you can get a skid out of a m-series sled you will be good that is what we did with buddies 06 crossfire and put a 153'' out of a 08 m8 with powerclaw, bumber delete, and 09' tailight and flap looks really good now

Good stuff to know guys, i considered 141 but loved the flotation my skidoo 151 x 16 had. Just trying to keep some of that deep snow capability with the 153, plus i'm 230lbs with gear. Thanks for all the insights everyone!

We converted my pal's CF8SP -07 just like you are doing. We put float skid and M153" rails. Track is Maverick (there was no other 153" tracks available in Finland). Also adjustable steering post, -09 rear bumper and foot holders etc... We kept longer gears as we don't have that big hills around here and elevation is low.

I'm doing the same to my CF7SP -06 except I'm using 141" track and big boring the engine to 8.

The cooler can be straightened. We did it to both sleds.

Pal's sled. Rear bumber is uncut so it's for stock 162". We liked just a little longer tunnel.

Straightened cooler.

And here's mine rear. I used stock rails as I couldn't find used 141" M rails. The straightened cooler is so big I couldn't make sled shorter.

Thanks for the pictures, that looks really good! We ordered parts today, hopefully be here by the end of the week and we can start putting this thing together. This information from everyone who's posted has been a big help. Thanks to everyone who's lent their advice!
