Cross Country event - Winter 2012

If there were a long distance Cross Country Event (I'm using the word event loosely, to avoid calling it a race) would you come?

The location would be half way between Hope, BC, and Merritt, BC. The total length of the course could be about 100km long. It would be a self checking event, ie Enduro style with common Key times being used as a way to measure how long it took to get between cabins.

The day would consist of:

Arriving in a parking lot, riding 5km up to the first control (Cabin). You then write down what time you leave, and start heading towards the second cabin. There would be a GPS track of the course to be followed as arrows simply aren't reliable in the snow.

You arrive at the second cabin and write down your time, then later the math can be done to figure out how long it took you should someone want to "race".

You can then stay at the cabin for up to an hour to warm up, before heading off to yet another cabin. Then repeat the procedure, and finally get back to the parking area before dark.

All participants would have to have full Avy gear, and VHF radios for emergency use only. These radios would be available for rent for the day from an outside source.

The event would be open to anything, but I suspect that a snowbike would be the fastest way to join the cabins together in the straightest line.

Pre-work for this would include insuring key times are accurate and displayed in each cabin, GPS route, and ensuring each cabin has a supply of wood to keep everyone warm. A backup log of who made it to each cabin would also be a good idea. This could be run in conjunction with the local snowmobile clubs in an effort to help them fund raise.

Any feedback?
