Crankcase filled with oil over summer??

I am a newbie to the forum, but have used it as a reference in the past. Everything I've found here is great and the members all seem to help each other out. Pretty cool!

I have a 2006 700 RMK. Went to fire it up to get it out of the shed and check it out, wouldn't start, hard to pull over. Pulled the plugs and found that they were soaked with oil. Replaced plugs, tried again ran for a second quit and wouldn't start again. Plugs full of oil again.

Got it in the garage and torn into it. Pulled the Throttle body, then the Reeds out and it is almost full up to the opening. WTF? Oil cable is stock, appears fine.

What would cause the Oil to leak into the Crankcase while sitting? I am going to replace the intake boots behind the Throttle body as well as the exhaust gaskets.

On a side note - I was having a intermitent problem with cutting out last winter, found the notorious broken wire by the TPS, so am hopeful that was the problem with that.

well sometime's they do that the gasket's seem to wear down overtime like everything else... I start my sled in the summer once or twice and ive never had no problem's... Right now my sled look's like a phazer i had to replace the nun! lol pain in the *** but we almost got it done...

Hope somone else can find out what your problem is.

Ouch!

Sounds like a project and a half! You probably have a little more snow than we have now, and are missing out on some riding. I'll have to get mine back together the new years week.

Oil will seep though the seals of the oil pump and fill the case. Had a friend with a doo that dumped 3 quarts of oil into the case over the summer and somehow got it started and bent a rod. Drain the oil out and replace the pump.

Kinda what I thought. Even if the oil cable was sticking the oil pump partially open it shouldn't cause a problem when sitting should it?

I called on a pump, not stocked. Can't get one in until after I leave for my trip. Should the pump work fine during normal use? Worked fine last year.

Not sure if yours is the same but I have an 02 800 RMK and had a similar problem. On mine, there are brass check valves that provide oil to the crank case of the engine from the oil pump (just follow the oil lines from the pump to the case). I heard that it takes about 7 psi to open the check valve but occasionally these check valves can fail or stick open and cause oil to bleed through over time. On mine, the pump is fine. I just drain the crank case in the spring and ride it.

Not sure about fuel injected sleds, but on carbed sleds oil can also leak past the carb into the engine. This would be evident by oil in the intake boots and reeds.

Your oil drained in there through the fitting that lubes the centre waterpump/oil pump shaft. It didnt get there through the oil pump. Do not replace the oil pump. Next time you store you sled make sure the oil level in the tank is below the outlet for the shaft oiler. The check valve in there may be weak or not working at all alowing the oil to flow over time. Its just an issue for the 755/866 motors.

X2.

This is not very common but 99.99999% of the time this happens, it is the check valve.

I don't believe the fitting and hose you are referring to is what caused my issue. I only have 2" of oil left in my resevoir. It looks like the line you refer to is about 6" above that, or 4" from the top. Could it still be the oil pump? are there any other check valves, etc??? Would it be a issue to run the pump as is? Are the brass fittings by the case check valves? or some kind of pressure valve? Maybe I should just look at replacing those.

don;t cure the problem

well at 30 bucks a barrel your problem is a hassle...but keep that sled cause if oil goes back up to 140 a barrel you have a retirement income if your crankcase keeps filling up...seriously though isn;t there check valves..??

My '01 800 Summit did this too, last fall went to fire up and almost pulled my arm out of the socket! Pulled the motor to change the check valves that press into the case, dumped out over a litre of oil from the case when I had it out. It has sat since last ride (June/08) and it's good, no oil in the case. It smoked like crazy when I bought it 2 years ago, the guy I bought the sled off gave me a BS story that he had fogged it really well.
