Crank Balance

The snows gone so I've began tearing my '06 900 RMK down. I'm going to send the clutch off to be balanced. How do I know if the crank needs to be balanced or trued?

You start by reading the "stickies" at the top of the 900 forum page.

This is the single best source of information on the web. Do some reading, the guys that have put the info on this site are a group of guys who know these sleds inside and out, top to bottom.

If your sled starts to vibrate and it did not before... STOP...

Probably your crank is out of true...

Can I check the PTO end with a dial micrometer to determine "true"?

If you mean a dial indicator... yes.
