Craigslist

Anyone every have any luck buying off of Craigslist, where the seller doesn't list a phone number, or "normal" E-Mail addy?

I have tried to buy things where in the add, the seller does not leave a phone number. Just the E-Mail that is tagged to the Craigslist add.

I E-Mail that E-Mail addy (sale.abcdefg.123456789@craiglist.com), and never a response back. Missed out on some good stuff.

The email addy that you are talking about goes directly too the seller. It is a way of hiding their email address from the public. I believe it is called blind emailing?

I suppose that if they sold what they are selling, they never check it.

Are Items pulled from craigslist once they are sold? That would be nice, maybe I am just E-Mailing to the address of people that sold there item.

Maybe I just have bad luck.

I bought a boat last year from a guy on Cragislist. It was a good deal, he answered the email I sent through the clist system, exhanged proper email addresses and phone numbers and put together the deal.

Bought and sold several things through there. Most of the time no-reply means the item's already gone.

Never had any real weird people buying/selling me stuff...

Same here. I have bought many things off craigslist with no shone or real email address. No reply generally means that you were too late and the item was sold and the guy was too lazy to pull the ad in a timely manner and too rude to send a quick reply telling you so. I agree it is frustrating when people dont take the time to let you know that it sold.

did you buy it in the states?

Yes. Last summer, the US Canadian dollar was at par. I went to Penticton, dropped my fifth wheel off at my parents, drove down to Spokane and met the guy at a rest stop. He was on his way to Idaho for a funeral so he brought the boat to Spokane from just north of Portland. Did the import think at the border with the forms etc. paid the taxes and drove back up to Penticton. Spent 2 weeks on Okanagan Lake with the boat then came home.

The guy was a little shocked that I was asking about the boat from such a long way away but it was a good deal and worth the trip. We had a gas. Spent some time in the US, saw some stuff I hadn't seen in years, met a really nice American family, did the transaction and left.

On the way down, my wife asked me what was stopping the guy from pulling out a gun and robbing us. He wanted us to bring cash (which I did) so that freaked me out a little. In hindsight, would I have taken anything but cash from some Canadian guy buying my boat?

Turned out he was a really nice guy who was happy to see his old boat going to a family who was really going to take care of it and, most of all, use it.
