I was doing rings then ended up finding these two marks by the exhaust port with no trailing marks? Any ideas?

Those are the original exhaust reliefs from Honda, for easier starting. At kick starting speeds {piston speed}these reliefs allow less compression to build in the head. When engine starts these reliefs lose there roll as pressure builds in the ring glands forcing the rings to seal against the cylinder.:face-icon-small-hap

So there is damage to the rings from these.... Do you think that is a manufacturing issue or after 70 or so hours it starts to wear on the rings?

70 hrs on a 2 stroke I think is a lot on a set of rings. Is this the original bore on this cylinder? if not maybe they were not chamfered correctly. Was there still good compression on this piston?
I assume you are doing a little preseason maintenance. make sure to check the skirt area of your piston for cracks

I planned on replacing the rings... This is a new bore so maybe that is the issue..... Compression was ok... The piston is forged because of the porting job.... but I cleaned it all up and it looks good.... Thanks.

Do you have a cooler already? curios which ones would fit well. Thanks!

I will let everyone know the thought is an arctic 580 but there are a graveyard of sleds we are going through.

Everything is good ... It was a brand new sleeve last year. Gss did the engine... I had a hard time reaching him but it turns out he had a massive heart attack and is recovering... Amazingly he still returned my email but I am not bothering him for a while... So I smoothed the relief ports a bit and I think I should be good... There was no need to bore this time around the sleeve was perfect along with the forged piston... Rings swapped and now putting on the cooler.. Then adding all Tungsten balls to the rekluse... This time around
