Those with cr500s do you find the need to have a desert tank and the spare 3 gallons? Or is it enough to run the standard tank with the spare 3 gallons...

I'd also like to know what other cr500 riders have found. This year I'll be riding my KTM/Honda. I've got the IMS 3 gallon as well as the back up tank and I hope it's enough so that I don't have that nagging me in the back of my head all day

Now that's a sweet ride;) can't wait to see it with the kit...

Organ rejection

Adam, Hopefully your Austrian host chassis is tolerant of its Japanese organ transplant. I guess we'll find out soon.

How do you like that bike? I think that may well be my next setup, the KTM frame looks way easier for the conversion than the CR alu frame IMO. What frame/bike and year did you start with? I've been looking for a KTM roller. If my KTM blows up again its getting my CR500 motor.

As for the desert tank, my CR500 came with three tanks including a new desert tank which I think I'm going to use. Can never have too much fuel. LOL

Last season i ran the stock tank and always carried a 3.3 on the back. I had a few rides last season where i carried 2 3.3gal tanks lol. I have since leaned it out from the beginning of the season and for the most part i only seem to carry the single 3.3. Really depends on the motor and carburation !

So far it handles and rides great. I've only been on a few short summer rides, so it's yet to be put through the full winter test. The vibration factor is less for some reason, which is nice. As far as the conversion, there is quite a bit of room in the 2003 450 frame I used. Chopped the old mounts, welded new ones up with the help of friends, and reworked the exhaust mounts. I'll find out here soon if I like it better than my now backup KTM thumper.

KTM/CR500 mongrol vs CRF/CR500 inbred

Adams KTM/CR500 hybrid was a much quicker swap than my cr500 into CRF250R alum chassis, it was almost like it belonged in there. No frame cutting, just mount relocation. What has surprised me is how much less vibration his conversion has compared to mine. If I was doing it all again I would have considered hacking up my KTM over a aluminum Honda chassis. It's a good combo.

That's kind of what I thought, thanks. The cro mo is naturally better at dampening vibration than the aluminum frames, I think part of it has to do with the shape and size if the tubing as much as the material itself.

I'm going to use an oversize 3.2 (crf450 frame) on the bike and pack the 3.3 on the t/s. I'm hoping with a relatively stock motor (MRE head mod) and a pwk39 that I should make it all day. I guess it will come down to jetting & carb icing.

I'm interested to see what everyone ends up running for jets!
