So now I am down to the air filter. Is the best senerio to use what MtnDoo did with the flexible wire cage?

I'm not far behind you on my CR500 build. I'm going with a pod system, no airbox. If I were using an airbox I think I'd do what Mtn-doo did, cut out the bottom of the box and use the jewellery wire.

Nice Cr500.

It's been explained to me if you don't have a box in between the air filter and carb you will loose a ton of hp... It was called a plenum... So that's why I was going with the stock box so I did not have to fab one. I was just goi the route you said until I found that out..

Ok guys just talked to loudmouthmx and they said they have a setup with the mounting bracket cage and outerfilter that keeps the stock airbox… he is going to forward some photos… when I get them I will post.

I've heard that as well but I've also heard the difference is virtually un-noticeable so I'm just going to try it and see before I go hacking up my airbox.

Let me know Kms performance said they dynoed almost a 40 percent loss in hp…

I don't believe that, tons of guys have been running them the past few years, we'd of heard by now for certain that it doesn't work if you were losing 40 percent.

Mtn-doo ran one on his Service Honda KX500, you would think they'd be pretty equal the KX and the CR. I ran a pod/stock air box conversion on my KTM for the past 2 years which added quite a bit of length to the intake plenum, it didn't seem to make any difference on my thumper. Hopefully the pod works, I really don't see why it won't otherwise I will be air box shopping.

You might want to try the pod first before cutting up the airbox. Its getting tougher to find nice used ones, somebody told me they are available new still but I haven't checked.

They are not available new anymore… I have backup I picked up… the one that came with the bike was pretty messed up… so we will see…

Huh. They were still available a couple months ago. Oh well. I have 3 so i should be good lol.

Yup they are unavailable now. Oh well, the black box was the only one that you could still get. The elusive white box was the holy grail LOL. Some claim the white box bikes were faster Ha Ha !!

Most guys are building AFs these days. Lots of used ones. I just bought a black complete for 40 bucks shipped to my house. Too bad im gonna hack it up lol

a plenum is a volume of space between your carb/throttlebody and the intake of the engine. not infront of the carb/TB. lots of different opionions and ideas on whats best if you google

If you can have a bit of a funnel effect from your airfilter to your carb, thats a good idea but i woulnt lose any sleep over it.

i run a pod inside stockairbox with the bottom cut out on my kx5
