nice pics, I've always wanted to do cool train pictures like this! :D

There is a 4-8-4 close to you already. Check out the Milwaukee Road 261. I have seen that thing running quite a few times and it is so impressive to see live. They keep it in NE Minneapolis and most of the runs are done in the Fall.

found it thanks!:D:beer; Where do they go to?

They run it South along the river during the leaf color change. They say it is one of the most scenic vistas along tracks in our area. They vary their schedule each year on which cities become destination points. I can tell you that people come from all over the world when they run the thing. Two years back, one of the guest operators was from England.

youtube milwaukee 261 There is a great vid of the thing running at high speed. Can't give you the link - work isn't a big fan of youtube;)

Nice pics

Seen a train like that come through SW MT a few years back but I think was black & silver does anyone know how big it was or model??

Anyways they made the mistake of holding it WOT through the tunnel in the Bozeman pass and not letting the diesel push it thought the whole train was a mess black as all get out they said they had a bad batch of oil and the engineer's almost passed out because the smoke was so thick.

:) cool pictures reminds me of my first job in Saco Mont, my freshman year in high school , 1951, worked as a gandy dancer for the Great Northern R R , just think I got $1.95 pr hour, and got to set beside the tracks when thoes big suckers went thru......................:beer;

I had to google the term "gandy dancer". That sounds like a ton o work doing that.

The big 484s weigh in around 1/2 million pounds without coal and water. That would move some rails.

Quick link to the vid mentioned earlier.

Those first pics are pretty cool. Did the cars look like passenger cars? They must be moving the engine for something upcoming.

he's a pic of a steamer that goes by our place about every second week-end during june, july & august. love it when they pull on the ole steam whistle.
