Could that be the reason why...?

I had a turbo onmy d8 at the beginning of the season. I wasnt impressed on the power it produced vs the price of the project which was I think weird because I was running 10psi at sea level. I always tought my clutches were off but my fuel tuning was spot on.

I did make it pull a bit mroe than a stocker but not to my desire so I ended up selling the kit. I also needed money so that helped deciding on keeping or seling it!

4 rides after I went back to stock the engine is dead and today the dealer (it was still warranty tks god!) called me to let me know it blew up because of the reed valve that were looking like scrap.

Could bad reed valve result in such a poor performance that I would have been disapointed ??

Im thinking I shold go back to turbo:face-icon-small-con

Hey Eli
im french lol you hace to explain me what grinning means?

Im very disapointed that I sold it now !!! :face-icon-small-fro I still have a 45gallons of avgas but what the heck am i suppose to do with now !!!!

You blew your reeds and or engine with your turbo and your dealer will warranty it? wow that's a good dealer.

Grinning is like smiling...only a little less. I think your bad reeds were why the turbo was not performing to full capacity. My turbofeels like double the power at similar absolute manifold pressures as yours. (13lbs at 5k elevation)

Can you buy it back?

Markoo, the dealer warranty it because I was back to stock when the engine died! Lucky me he is not looking at the rst of the sled cuz he would find the hole in the tunnel and hole for the oil pressure and gauges lol!!!!

Eli, I could just buy another one but the only thing for sale right now in the used market is boondocker. For what I have read and see I do NOT want to be playing with their fuel controller. It looks like a F***g pain in the ...!

Plus, there's not much snow around here right now and I will be away for a month at least at the end of winter so not too sure it is worth the investment!

I really find it hard to believe that if the motor was running correctly and the kit was setup properly, that you would even consider the performance gains unsatisfactory. With a Garrett based kit on a 2 stroke, it is freaking ridiculous once its dialed. I would guess that you are correct in your assessment that the motor/reeds caused the lack of gains. However, fuel mapping and clutching very well could have played a part in this as well.

Yep. Even if the sled was not "dialed", 10PSI at sea level would really get your attention. The difference when you pulled the turbo off would have been very noticeable if the engine had issues.

Are you sure you saw 10PSI of boost????

Great that the dealer took care of the engine.

I'm running 7-8 psi on my TD8 at 1k feet elevation and it is a lot more fun than a stock sled (i.e. scary sometimes when it wheelies vertical). I think the turbo sleds will really shine at higher elevations though. On the flat land trails, I just spin the heck out of the track. If you are running the stock gears, your top end shouldn't change from a stock sled. I am taking my sled out West next week, so we'll see if my theory was true.

Three years ago I built a TM6, it was a fun sled. It was too loud (for me), it ran pure race gas, running 10-11 psi and it didn't seem all that fast in 2-3' of powder. It was kind of disappointing but when I looked around at my friends running stock sleds, I was blowing right past them. I could go down a small valley and not worry about coming back up or doing a nice powder u-turn and not worry about getting stuck afterwards. I rode it around here in MN and it was definitely a traction problem, like what I'm experiencing now. With that said, did you do the F-bomb track mod or are you running a different track?

I was running a c.e 2.5 brand new. gearing 21/41. I know my clutching was not spot on but seriously the sled was not even wheeling!!! I littile bit but not like we see on vids.

I really think reed were the problem. too bad!!! I would have love to see that thing ripping!

It must have been your engine, for sure!!

Im running aproximatly 6psi at sealevel on pump gas with a low comp head, and compared to my stock D8 this is just insane!!:face-icon-small-sho

Next step will be to get some heavier weights and start running higher boost, even though I dont think it is really necessary for my riding....

Get that motor rebuilt and give the turbo another shot:face-icon-small-win

yeah, thats true.

But you can be glad you didngt keep pushing that engine with the turbo setup on, causing it to really grenade and possibly take out your turbo at the same time...now that would have been a real bummer!:)

:face-icon-small-fro dont know about that, lot of money involve and lot of time also!

Salut francois,
