I took my 09 600 to a small engines garage, for a tune up, and im thinking about changing the gearing for it to get more low end grunt, but I think the price their asking is a little steep, anyone know what it takes to do?

Just buy some new gears, put them in yourself and away you go... drop a tooth on top and add a tooth on bottom. BUT IMO i would stick my money into a clutch kit before i regeared it. if you have the 155 you're already at 41/19... You'll feel the clutching for sure.

just put in a 42t with the 19 no chain change that gives you 2.21 gear ratio and that works good for the 600 with 155
And clutch kit a 58 helix stock weights and an almond spring this will wake up that sled.

I bought both gears for less $100, made by Team at my dealer. Polaris brand name were more money.

$100 for the helix
$50 for the bottom gear
$25 for the spring

so about $175 or so for parts... depending if you can get deals anywhere or not... Dont have the small engines ppl do it, find someone who will help you out and do it yourself. Its not hard and it'll be a good learning experience for you!

If you need to keep an eye on cost control on the Obamanation of Economy, Western Powersports has the gears and I recall them at around 37ish..big gear a bit more.

Get a spring removal tool or long arse neddle nose pliers of some sort for your exhaust springs. Throw the sled on its side ( put something soft under it on the side) and you wont even have to drain the oil. Pretty easy job. I have done it on the snow for Races at club playdays etc. in just a few minutes! The first time it shouldnt take you much more than 30min. I would guesstamate. If you drain the oil if it needs it...a little longer. Throw in a few beers and just call it an hour job! Take that saved money and put it towards some clutching. Have fun my friend..become one with your machine and feel the harmony of your work Grasshopper!
