Anybody have any input on these? Good, bad or otherwise? Trying to decide on a tire. I'm having a difficult time. I do all kinds of driving in all kinds of conditions, except, I don't go looking for swamps.

We own a tire store in Southwest Colorado and are a Cooper Dealer. The STT is a great tire for mud and deep snow and actually does pretty well on hardpack for a aggressive tire. Its a fairly soft rubber compound which makes the traction very good. However that soft rubber compound also means you wont get as good of mileage out of them if you run a lot of highway. most of our customers get about 30 to 40,000 out of them if they rotate every 6000 miles. less if you have a lead foot. They are a little noisy on pavement but far better then most aggressive tires. Also they have a very tough sidewall and can take some pretty good abuse. So if you run mostly highway and are gonna run them year round expect to wear them out sooner then say an all-terrain. And as with all aggressive tires, once they get past half worn the traction on hardpack snow and ice will be pretty poor due to the high voids in the tread. Hope that helps. Overall its a very good tire and most of our customers like them including myself. I have ran them on my F-150.

I put a set of them on my work tuck and was thoroughly unimpressed with them. I got a whopping 22,000 miles out of them on an unloaded truck in perfect alignment.

Personally I've never owned any Cooper tire I've ever thought very highly of *shrug*

thank you for the replies. Mileage is certainly one thing. I will be using them only through the winter months. Do they like the deep dry snow, deep wet concrete snow, slush? Will I be puckered up on compact snow on the highway? Can they be siped in the center lugs, now or later?

As arcticman summed it up basically they are a well rounded mud tire. I run a set of 37" ones for winter and I love them. Seriously they aren't actually that loud and I rotate mine every 4000 miles cuz I have OCD! You will like them believe me. Hope this helps.

Tires

The Hankook tire that is in the same class will last twice as long. Superior traction. Buy them through Discounttiredirect.com. No shipping or tax fees. You will save about 400 dollars. Get them delivered and take them to a local shop in your area for mounting.

This will save you BIG.....

if your just going to run them in the winter, consider the hankook dynapro M/T with studs

They will do really well in the deep, dry, wet, slushy stuff and still pretty well on the compact snow overall. Siping them will definatly help a lot and since your not going to run them year round will not affect wear all that much. I would sipe them from the start if your wanting to do that. If your not a leadfoot and rotate them frequently I think you will love them. We have also run the Hankook Dynapro MT as well but the rubber composition is very hard and I found them to be very noisey. They do last longer but I feel the traction is not as good. If you really want outstanding winter traction get a set of the Cooper Discoverer M+S. Hands down the most impressive tire for winter driving conditions that I have ever ran. Currently running them now and I sell a ton of them around here. Very good option for running during the winter and they are far cheaper.

Thank you very much for the extra info. I have had the Discoverer M S, they were very nice, but on a different type of vehicle. I had the Hankook Dynapro AT not MT on my previous truck and they were very good as well, I liked the look of the MT at the time but opted for the AT. I have an AT now but it is WEEEAAAAk in the traction dept. I'll not give the name as I'm sure some love it for what they use it for. I've got 4 STT's waiting for me at Discount.

Thanks for the info. Thought I'd add, I see you are from GF. I have several relatives there, ( aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews). Pretty nice town, I like it there.

I have used the Hankook Dynapro MT's, was not too impressed. They were a 35" tire so maybe the width was causing the poor traction on snow/ice. Currently use BFG Commercial Traction T/A, studded, very good traction tire. Seem to use a soft tread, so wear is faster than other tires, but these are a dedicated winter tire, think I am on my 4th year with them. Have heard good things about the Goodyear Duratracs, think I will try them next.

I fully intended on purchasing the duratracs. Depends on who you talk to and on what day. I literally called 2 days in a row and asked opinions based on my driving. I did not get a consistent suggestion.

x2 on discounttiredirect.com. they are awesome. take a look at the nitto terra grapplers or the new trail grappler. the terra grappler is more of an all terrain. I have had two sets of 35s on a cummins, and got over 50k on each set, rotationg every 10k. i now have 37s and have over 40k on them and they are still at about 40%. I love nittos

A few years ago, I had the Terra Grapplers on my F150 and I got the first set replaced because they were breaking up. I got another set, FREE, and they did last about 55k. I used them pretty hard as well. I then tried out the Silent Armor Pro Grade from GY and like them better for traction. I need a more aggressive tire than the A/T now. The trail Grappler has a similar pattern to the STT it would appear.

duratracs here too. put a set on my truck a couple weeks ago. I moved to the mtns and got these for winter only use. they work awesome in all snow conditions and for a non studded tire they did well when i was driving on glare ice that had water sitting on top.

tires

ice/snow emblem - look for it on the tire. duratracs have it. many good comments on this tire in snowest forums and is how i learned about them (thank you everyone who commented on them!) . I just put them on based on peoples comments and then my research - "branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol to identify they meet industry severe snow service standards."
