Cooling fan

Anyone running a cooling fan? The yz450fx i picked up has one installed from the previous owner. It looks like my thermo-bob can be installed with it on. I'm thinking it will probably get plugged with snow and ice in the winter but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe it'll be beneficial for spring riding? Experiences?

It should not get plugged by snow and ice in the winter. The heat from the radiator should keep everything around it melted out nicely. I think you will find that you are trying to keep temps up most of the time on the snowbike, versus keeping them down. In slow moving situations in the tight trees it will come in handy.

Gotcha about the fan.
I'm definitely more concerned about keeping temperatures up rather than down. I'll be running thermo-bob with full engine shrouding in deep snow and cover the radiators with outerwears or plastic depending what i find to work better. I was just seeing if anyone liked using a fan or not since it's already on my bike. I had a tunnel cooler on my CR 500 last year which was ideal with fully shrouded engine. If my POS timber sled chain hadn't destroyed my engine i'd probably still be riding that bike.

Spring you will be using that fan most likly

Ya. Probably. I'll leave it on and see how much it comes on and what difference it makes. Guess we'll figure this four stroke thing out this year huh? Can't wait to hear your experiences this year compared to your hopped up 500. Of course, that turbo that you're putting on there might make a slight difference! I'm leaning more towards nitrous myself, but I spent all my money already.

Ya figured that would give me the 2 stroke zip;) after riding a bunch of bikes to me there is no denying the 4 stroke rpm range is a huge advantage. Came close to doing a yzfx if the other would not have fallen in my lap. One of the guys I ride with a good bit will be going nitrous with the yz so I am sure we can report back with the comparisons....

Granted I'm a big fat guy, but I was amazed at how much, and on how cold of days my KTM 500 fan would run.

So I'd say leave it on there.

If you still have the tunnel cooler why not run it... I was?

Might run it. Just not sure i'll need it. No one seems to run them on 4 strokes. Just put on t-bob. No problem for room.

I'd like to have to not plumb in the tunnel cooler if it's not necessary. It does add a few pounds. Plus I rode this bike in the desert the other day and it was pretty fun! Kind of want to make it as easy as possible to switch back.

I hope my other bike didn't just hear me!
