Coolant geyser when pulling over...

Well I just bought an 05 Rmk 900.
The happy seller demonstrated how nice it starts and runs. He said there is some air in the coolant system from having the head off and it needs to be elevated and burped.

So I started it several times at his house, let it warm up long enough to get the boards warming, and drove it up on my trailer.

I get home and try to start it and the motor gets real tight after the first pull. I couldn't get 3 pulls as it got tighter and tighter.

So, knowing there was an air/coolant issue, I pulled the cap off of the reservoir and it shot a solid stream that hit the back of the hood!
I pulled the spark plugs and they were dry, and it turned over fine. As soon as I put the plugs back in though, it will gush every time I pull it over.

I thought maybe head gaskets, but I didn't think that would make it hard to turn over.

What gives here????

Also, the display in the dash is dead. Is there a fuse or module somewhere for this?

Head gasket, your compression is getting into your coolant. Yes you should have a relay somewhere.

sounds like blown head o ring they can be a bugger to get to stay in place when you set the head on.

Yup, pretty easy fix though

Also, yes a leaking head o-ring can also cause the excess compression you mention. In addition to blowing compression into the coolant, it can also suck coolant into the cyl during the downstroke... hydraulically locking the engine.

when you replace the o ring use vaseline to hold it in place. will save you a headache

relay

Check the relay by the recoil on brace. pop the top off it bet its wet in side and green after you replace your head orings

There's a battery for the display.
