Here is the thing about cooke city in the winter:
Its a 9 hour drive from SLC and you pass all these great riding areas to get there:
Logan, Star Valley, Tetons, Big Holes, Island Park, Lions Head, Big Sky area, Gardiner MT...
The riding is good up there, but not any better that what we have in our back yard. The terrain is similar to Snake Creek, high unitas, and fairview. Big, HUGE open bowls, high elevations and lots of Avys... I am with Dan on this one, for an extra 3 hour drive you could be riding near Revelstoke, Canada.
They plow the road through the park around April 1. Cutting through the park will save you 4 hours driving and you can still get some awesome powder riding in Cooke in April and May...
In town all hotels, the two gas stations, and dining choices are all right off the main road. You can park at your hotel and not have to drive anywhere the rest of the trip, everything is within walking distance. There is plenty of snow to drive the sled around town till june.
