As of right now the parking area and the road from the Chief Joseph Highway will not be plowed. An agreement between Park County,Shoshone National Forest and the State of Wyoming has not been signed. If the agreement doesn't get signed there is a possibility the trail system will be gone. Anyone who uses the parking area and the road we need your help. Please call a Park County Commissioner and one of representatives from the Forest Service, also the county attorney to get this agreement signed. Thankyou

why is this such a issue..they plow the highway every day..what about the people that live in the area??aaarrrgg just one more thing....

I will be calling first thing in the morning. We travel that road every weekend to ride cooke city. This is just not fair, but like mentioned there are residence that live in crandal creek, and surrounding area so lets all make a call and let them know just how important this road is to us.

Federal Highway 212 is closed in the winter. Plowing of Federal Highway 212 and the Pilot Parking area has been done on an as needed basis by Park County. The plowing has been done only because of an agreement between the three parties. The agreement has expired and a new one needs to be agreed to. I think with all parties looking for ways to cut spending due to budget cuts we may be on the short end.

The Chief Joseph Highway (Crandall Road) is plowed by the State. The road we have the problem with is from the stop sign (Federal Highway 212) to Pilot Creek parking area. Not long ago Crandall Road was only plowed on tuesdays if it needed it, the same day mail was delivered. Now we get mail on tuesday and thursday.

If they cannot come to an agreement and the road and parking area are not plowed there is the probability the trails will not be groomed.

Not to mention the hit that Cooke will take from the lack of tourism. In my oppinion the only reason Cooke City is still open to ride is because with out snowmobilers the town would not survive the winters and support its year round residents. If the snowmobilers coming from the east have to travel 3 extra hours to get there they will go to the Big Horns instead. If the snowmobilers can't make it to town the businesses will fail, Cooke will become a seasonal town and our ridding area will become Wilderness.
