I will post this in the Montana section also.

Rode three days in Cooke, first time there. Was impressed. The snow was very light and dry compared to what I am used to here in Central Idaho. We pretty much had the area to ourselves. We hit the hill early each day and didn't see other sledders until late morning each day. (I am sure they were pissed to see tracks on every open area when they rolled out at 10am)

Great area. Enjoy. Thanks to the folks at Antlers, the Friday night steak special was off the hook.

Those pictures are enough to get me inspired to head up that way from the Wyoming mountains.

Totally agree with you there, hopefully we I can get up there when i get a newer sled, looks like some awesome riding areas and snow!

Great pic's thanks for sharing. Just one question, why is there not a track in the nice looking chute, LOL

It's a good pull, I made run up to the mouth of it and that was enough.

The snow was really wind blown and SUPER soft on the top. You could rocket up the first 75% of the climb then the last 25% was DEEEEEP.

Plus to be honest I don't know the area well enough to know what was on the other side. :)

That could have been fun.

That and the fact the avalanche danger was probably at considerable at the very least. There have been quite a few people that have been buried up there.

Can't even begin to count the amount of morons with no packs and rental beacons climbing hills with high avalanche danger (mainly in Cooke)...I just shake my head and ride away...

Yea, that was my thought. Looking at the big nasty cornice and the wind loading I sure as heck wasn't going to get into that situation.

Although when we did do some digging in other areas the layers were well bonded. Didn't see any natural avy activity, did see some snow moving as it warmed up and started falling from the trees.

But the possibility was there so we surely respected it.

Also when you go to a spot and see all the probe poles leaning next to the tree it kind of gets you thinking "Crap, this must slide a lot, and people must be in them a lot". So we played it pretty darn safe.

I completely understand, one has to be carefull. Just hate to see all that untracked snow!

Heres a few more, The place was tore up but we still rode untracked snow all day. There where some real bone heads (I doubt it was you) up there that weekend riding in areas that should not be ridden in.
