Converting surge to electric???

Just got a used 20' open trailer with surge brakes. The assemblies are all rusted up and has a broken line. From what I have searched here and other sites we should convert to electric. It doesn't look like a big deal, I can handle it. Just a question about the drums. The surge assemblies and 1-3/4'' wide pads and the electric assemblies I have found are all 1-1/4''. Can we still use the same drums from the surge setup? Anything else I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

I am about to do the same thing. It is far cheaper to convert to electric brakes than to rebuild/repair my surge system correctly. It is very easy to do. In my case, I already have a brake controller in my truck from one of our summer trailers. You should be able to use your same drums. Go by an rv dealer and do some shopping. In the end, the electric brakes are a better setup as well so it is a win-win situation.

No doubt the electric system seems much easier and is going to work better. Just wanted to make sure the drums are going to work with the narrower pads befor buying the assemblies.
