considering a 2017 SVX brand new at a local dealer

I'm considering a snow bike, as mentioned the 2017 Arctic Cat SVX 450 is available from a local dealer brand new, I'd have to negotiate an appropriate deal if I were to consider. I do have a 2012 KTM 250 SK-F was thinking to try a Timbersled kit on this as an alternative option, if it's ok, I'll probably getting a more capable set up next year. I'm not new to sledding, have a couple of Summit mountain 154 sleds, snow biking would be a new endeavor. My riding experience is limited to light backcountry, I don't consider myself an expert by any means.

Any suggestions or help, especially for the 2017 SVX . I've read this introductory combo was not the best, would love to know if it's worth the purchase, how much is it worth, and what mods are necessary to bring it up to snuff.

The svx seem pretty rare and aren't worth anything used. My Buddy got a good deal on one and rode it for 2 seasons. It seems to start well and it's quiet. Not the most powerful but better than a 250f. The previous owner cold seized it so it had poor ring sealing and oil burning but still ran fine. We put a new cyl on it that took forever to get parts. The ski and suspension are bad for hard snow.

I've ridden a couple of them, some stock and some deeply modified and didn't like the ride quality of them. The suspension just wasn't properly tuned for snow riding and the ski wants to dart harder and faster than a cat in a bath. Buy a TS kit and save yourself the money and heartache.

I think it would depend of the price. I don't have any experience with the arctic cat svx but I just bought a camso kit and have been going over the pros and cons. The sxv is really just a sherco 450 with a camso kit. Some people hate the camso ski, some people love it. In 18 camso put a stiffer rubber ski damper on and that was supposed to make a good difference. I'm personally not real hyped about the mono rail. I haven't tried it yet but I've rode a convex timbersled kit and it is plenty easy to learn. The mono rail will have almost no up side but will probably wash out easier on compacted side hills. The camso 2.5" track is supposed to be about the best out there besides the 3" timbersled. I got a good enough deal on my camso kit that I think it was worth trying it.

The sherco is a decent bike, with its biggest problem being getting parts. So if it's a good enough deal go for it. But if you could buy a 450 and a timbersled for about the same price I'd do that.
