That guy seems like a super smart guy and i am not trying to stir the pot i am also not saying that Obamas plan will be anything like Canada's, but and i mean but Canada has a very good health plan i pay around 50 dollars a month it comes off my cheque so last checked it was around there my work pays my dental 80% and perscriptions 80% and i make around $80,000 a year, I have never got a bill from a hospital or doctor and i know a lot of people who have survived cancer and many other illnesses. Canada's plan ain't that bad and i am sure about 95% of Canadians would agree there seems to be some confusion going on here when comparing Obamas plan to the Canadian plan that part i don't like because i don't think it's something that can just happen over night our plans are so different right now. I know the US has way better doctors and that may account for the survival rates hell they recruit all our real good doctors and pay them twice the salaries that they make here in Canada, but honestly we are just fine in Canada we are healthy for the most part and those who get sick are well taken care of as far as i can see. I have been sick and injured many times in my life and neither me or my parents when i was younger have walked away from the hospital with a bill for services. I know this is a very touchy subject right now for you guy's but all i hear is people saying bad things about our system and it really isn't a fair comparison. I hope this all works out for you no matter which way it goes but i just thought i would shed some light on our health care system from a real life perspective, and again good luck on this and all the other issue's you are having right now with the new Government.
Too me, it's not that government health care, or private health care is "better" or "worse". It's about The Constitution of the United States, and the principles this country where founded on, and have progressed on.
America was about personal responsibility, small government, and the greed based innovation that made us a great country. Yha, greed based. You can't incentivise greatness through civic responsibility, and emotions. If you could, Cuba and Russia would rule the world. You do it through handing someone greater resources for a better product. It may be greed, but it's better than slavery to the government.
If you want to fix health care in the USA, get the government out of the way. It's the government's own emotional based rules and the emotional based judicial rulings, that have resulted in the current mess. Why do people get to go to emergency rooms, who can't pay? The Government. Why can't we collective bargin insurance? The Government. Why do drugs cost so much? The Government. Why do doctors order tests, that are unnecessary? The Government judicial rulings have forced them too.
In short, socialism isn't what America is about. Capitalism is. Universal Healthcare is socialism. The US government has no business, in health care. The Government is the problem.
Good on ya mate...I don't mean to stir the pot either, but you can keep your health care system....and FYI it is a lot more than just health care at stake here.....It is freedom under attack!
.
I see your point and i don't think what is good for our country will be good for yours either, two totally different places and i do understand first hand how it will affect your freedom. Good luck on this didn't mean to upset or offend anyone.

really, cause i pay around 17% tax on my income, what do you pay???????? our gov't is just different than yours, not better or worse, just different. republics have their pro's and cons, as do parliments!Kane,
Canadians who can afford it get their hearts operated on, and their cancer treated, and their organ transplants in the U.S. Why? Our best doctors are better than your best doctors because our doctors don't work for the government. In fact, in the US, the guys who finish at the bottom of the medical school class usually end up working at Veteran's Administration hospitals. The VA is the bottom rung of medical care in the US and it's 100% gummint run...black mold, rats...yup, only the best for our combat wounded vets.
When the government (yours, ours, it doesn't matter) runs anything choice is limited or eliminated. Competition and innovation wither away, driving quality goes down and costs up.
You guys get taxed damn near to death but since it's the only system you know you don't really notice that as a Canadian you're born with Parliment's d**k in your butt. Canadians are a great people but your government sucks.

i KNOW we get taxed alot, not saying we don't! BUT i know several peeps in texas that pay $800/month for health coverage for their families, that's a lot of TAX-----so really, same chit, different pile! Then figure out how much GST you pay yearly on all your purchases from fuel to groceries, fuel tax, liquor tax, etc.
