Confusion

Yesterday my brother was taking my M8T up a hill when it all at once lost power on one cylinder. It sounded like classic burn down, or possibly a broken reed. He coasted it to the bottom, where we checked for compression, which was ok, but it would only run on the mag side cylinder. It was also flooded and had to start with the throttle WFO. Figured it was probably a reed. I got it out to where we could tow it home. Well this morning I went to wrenching, w/o trying to start it. I got to the reeds, and they looked perfect. Put it all back together, it fired up, and I rode it around the yard a bit. I wish I would have tried to start it prior to taking it apart. Anyway.....So what gives? Anybody else ever see anything like this? Another Cat quirk? Help!!!??? Thanks.

check for a boost leak on your wastegate controller or a bad wastegate actuator. If actuator doesn't open wastegate you get instant overboost and depending what controller you have it will flood the engine with fuel reacting to overboost problem.

The only thing about flooding is I had to hold it wide open for about a qtr mile and it never cleaned out and took off. It wouldn't even try to come on boost. I will check the actuator though.

Any chance you have a stuck boost pressure switch? Depending on which fuel control unit you have, it will throw a code.

We had what sounds like a similar problem this winter. On an 09 m8t. Sled would only run on one cylinder. Egt's were out of wack etc etc. When we went to tear down. We found that the spark plug boots were some how loosening from the spark cables. One boot was still tight. Got one to two turns on two boots, and fourth boot was pretty much on done. We weren't seeing any kind of codes or weird numbers other than the egt's either. Make sure boots are tight and there is enough wire being screwd into on cable. Used tie straps on ends to help keep from coming undone again. It's just a thought.

The controller seems to be fine. I played around with it a little to make sure it would still work. After I put the thing back together it seemed to run fine. Is there a possibility of icing or condensation messing something up? I never even thought to check for spark on just the pto cylinder where the mag side would run.

Check your bailing twine

Brian Maybe you bailing twin came loose. If you pre det some times it will knock you spark plug caps off.

I would check the plug wires. I had one that started to rub, if I had not noticed when I did could of wore into.

I just black taped mine up and put some extra covering on.
