Conditions at Hope Valley, Blue lakes

My son was coming back from Kirkwood before Xmas and stopped in front of the gate at the parking lot and took some pics. No snow on the road and maybe 2-3" alongside the pavement. He said it looked real lame for sledding. I was going to haul the sled down to his place in Gardnerville and ride on Friday after Xmas, but after I saw his pics, I passed. I don't think they got much more down that way since that time. Some guys on the WCS site unloaded at Red Lake and went back in. Their report didn't sound to exciting.

Not too bad in the trees, but once you get into the open areas and ridge tops it's been stripped of the fresh snow and is very hard packed snow. Did a quick trip to red lake since I didn't feel like going to the north shore since I got out the door late, I believe the north shore got a lot more snow.
