Conditions at Cottonwood

Rode there yesterday. Decent snow, but still be careful as there is not much of a base. Trails seemed to be in good shape though - once you get up a ways.

Also rode out of ST. Elmo today. Hardly any snow up there. Everything is windblown bad, but the backside of Tin Cup Pass seemed better.

The pow has been hit hard over the past sunny week but it is starting to set up into a nice base. Trails are in good shape once you get above denny creek. Hoping for some snow out of this storm!

The road between avalanche parking lot and denny creek parking lot is getting pretty or horrible bad again with a solid mile of dirt or pavement riding. Cant avoid all the pavement now. I just hate having to run that much pavement to get up to the snow :(>>>

So except for the first few miles of riding pavement it is pretty good..

Not sure who decided to move the parking area to the Avalanche lot, but as noted above the road is reaallly, reaallly baaaad. We went up into Italian Creek and found some very good snow.:)

cotton conditions

Group of three were up on 1-3-08. It snowed all day long. When we left at 3:00 there was approx 6". It should help the first few miles until Denny Creek.

I was still hittin my skags quite a bit when I came down early yesterday. The 6" packed down and it is better but I was still scrapin...

Rde up there quite a bit and have already gone through a pair if skags this year.

We all wish we had the snow of last winter but there is just not that much snow down at avalanche this year. A day or 2 of sun and we will have pavement again. Last year was the only one in the past 10 or so that there was enough snow to ride all year from avalanche.

I too wish that we were up at denny creek parking lot. Someone said they are going to re-do the parking lot at avalanche and that is why they want us down there.. The problem as you have seen is that the road S facing and melts fast! And what good will a trick parking lot with no snow be?

Maybe a trail over on the N facing slope would work better or maybe knock over that snow pile so we can drive up there... We wont leave ruts or get stuck cause there is not enough snow!

Or maybe re-do denny creek. That place is packed in the summer and needs more parking.

I dont know but unless we get a big, big, snow all of us will be dealing with riding pavement until they let us drive up to denny creek........

Again it there is good snow once you get over the first couple of miles..
