Concealed carry ammo

What do you use for CC and home defense in a handgun?

Do you practice with the same ammo?

Have you found that the defense ammo shoots to the same POI as your practice (assumed FMJ) ammo?

For reference, I'm shooting a 4" Compact XD45. have not chose a CC ammo yet, and have only shot 230 gr. FMJ ammo out of it. Weapon will be on person or in the pickup, as at home the 12ga is king for intruders. Appt next Thursday with the Sheriff to get my permit.

I personally like to use a hydrashock, powerball, or dpx... definatly spend the money on a premium bullet when carrying CC.. cause in the very very very rare case that you would have to use it.. you will want the best available for protection and stopping power...

Yes you practice with the ammo.. I dont mean go plinking with it everyweekend.. but you need to know how it shoots differently than your cheap plinking ammo... Not very often you will find cheap ammo to have same POI as CC ammo.. due to the reason that CC ammo is loaded quite a bit hotter than most plinking ammo... In some rare cases they might be close to the same though..

I like Remington Golden Sabers, Federal Hydra shocks Cor-bon 230 gr +P JHPs I have found poi doesn't change enough that i need to worry about it between those brands. The best flawless functioning is what your after

I have heard a lot of people that say they carry the Winchester Ranger SXT's too. They're the Black Talons dreaded by the libs and newspeople back in 90's, just renamed and a different color.

As long as you use a factory round and have shot it to know where it hits you will be fine. Using reloads are a big no no if you ever have to discharge it.

ditto but i also like the Hornady TAP.

Use whatever the local cops use. Less chance of some lawyer making you out to be a psycho using "hot" reloads or some other "killer" round if you ever have to use it. This is what the instructor told us when I took my Utah CCP.

you make a good point

Hey XC700, how do you like that Hornady TAP? Looks like good stuff for my 40. Have any feeding issues? I have one of the Mechtech carbine conversions and it really only likes to shoot high pressure loads. Fun gun though!
